Default Just replaced my alternator, did i get a bad alternator?

I bought a Bosch alternator a week ago from Pep Boy's, when i'm driving with my headlights on it almost looks like i'm highbeaming someone, at high rpm's (past 3,000 rpm's) on the freeway my headlights and cluster get bright then when i downshift or drive at low rpm's they get dimmer, did i get a bad alternator? Keep in mind also that it has a new battery that i bought 2 weeks ago. I did a search already but could not find anything specifically with my problem, thanks!

is your belt on tight? that wouldnt explain the EXTREME brightness but would explain the dimming at low RPMs

Now that you mentioned it, no i did not tighten up the belt all the way, how would go about tightening it up? This was the first time i've replaced an alternator before, thanks. I dont want anybody to get upset thinking i'm highbeaming them while i'm drving, especially with all the people getting shot on the freeways in Cali.
