Single side swingarm S.O.S.
Help, guys.
Where i live TIG is practically unheard of and MIG welders are few and far between. Although theres a whole bunch of very skilled stick and oxy-acetylene workers, its pretty much troglodyte technology here in the philippines. (Aluminum is done by oxy acetylene, stainless steel by stick.)
My question is, I plan to do a single side swing arm conversion on my cb750 and i need help with what material to use, given the resources available. If i use mild steel rectangular tubing and plain sheetmetal, how thick should they be, How bout if i use stainless steel? Will stick welding suffice, aluminum is out of the question coz nobody can work it. The distance between the frame pivot and the axle would be around 21 inches. Please enlighten me.

Should be easily done in some form of chromoly...check out Spondon's or Harris' single-sided swingarm conversions for ideas. They're tubing welded chromoly I think. You'll likely have to machine both the frame pivot section and the rear axle carrier housing. Look at Honda, Ducati and Triumph bikes for inspiration and possible parts donors.
