FAL fans and Autometer gauges = POS!!
What a bad weekend for me. I just got the FAL fans and tried to install them. First of all they didnt fit very well and they pushed my AC line against the compressor housing. I now prefer to have OEM fans and move them slightly than the FAL fans. Also, when I was removing the FAL fans I clipped the nipple on the radiator that goes to the coolant reserve. I tried to fix it by drill a fitting but it leaked everytime. So I had to replace my 2 month old radiator. Not cheap.
Now, today Stan(flamenco) and I put in some guages for a friend. Its been about 4 yrs since I last put in a Autometer mechanical gauge and now I know why I dont recomend them. First off, I pinched the plastic POS tubing and it read way off. Its so much easier to install a pressure gauage(aka map sensor) like greddy electical where you only have to route a wire.
Just venting. Note to self, dont ever buy, recomend, or sell auto meter.

I had mine installed myself (mechanical boost, electrical fuel press and a/f) without any problems...and they are still working.

Not to be a *****, but you shouldn't make judgements like that just because you screwed up an install. My FAL fan fit perfectly, no problems, just like stock. And my autometer gauges work great, and I've never had any problems with their installation or operation (although I do recommend Greddy for EGT).

Well also the FAL fans are only made for a denso radiator, and not the Showa. Thats another reason they didnt fit. I thought I had the Denso. I know this for a fact because I we talked to the Rep at SEMA and she said they were only made for Denso radiators.
And dont worry, I dont think you are *****.

Nothing wrong with Autometer Gauges,Just about every racer from NHRA to Nascar uses them, only problem i see with them is when a moron poorly installs them.
Everyone should use the Autometer A/F gauge I highly endorse it but , it should be turned around to face the windshield and wired so it runs with the keyts out of the ignitionas a sort of fake alarm light/beacon, it reminds me of knoght riders KIT with that stupid whirring light.
my fal's are a close fit too but they work well.
as for autometer i try to avoid them as best i can. oil and fp must have a high quality line added or you get issues. also i know of an autometer gauige that leaked oil into the face.

I'm sorry about the fans art... want me to take them back ? They took some ghetto engineering to install but they were secure and worked well for me...
I had to bend my AC lines to the drivers side to clear the fans...

Hey,
Art tell me this first though.
What guages do nascar use? They dont use no greddy gauges that for sure. They use Autometer. What about NHRA they also use Autometer. ... hmmm so i dont think the guages really suck its just that the entry level guages they sell are for just entry level quality.
I know they make some decent upper leve series.

I have an autometer mechanical boost guage and air/fuel guage for about two years now. Never had a problem with anything. It is a mechanical/electrical item and as such has the potential to break/not work properly. You can go out and buy a Greddy/Blitz/Apex guage and have it DOA or not read properly. True, they seem to have less problems, however you also pay a lot more. Autometer is not exactly a new company in the way of automotive products. They offer electrical as well as mechanical guages. For less potential of problems it is always wise to use electrical.
i love my autometer gauges.. except my EGT which is a slow pos.
I've used a/f, boost, oil press, egt, and my Roulette Wheel sized 9k tach.
I like em because they are cheap and I wont feel bad when some *** breaks into my car and steals them. bastards better not!
