Default Comptech products void Honda extended warranty?

Hi, I am a newbie. I want to purchase comptech Icebox cold air intake and headers for my 2002 Accord EX-V6 but I concerned if honda would give me a problem honoring my Extended warranty? Any help would be great. Thanks.

ANY aftermarket modification has a good chance of voiding your warranty. Im almost positive a honda dealership can void your warranty if they find ANY non-OEM Honda modifications in your engine bay/drivetrain, not 100% sure though

your best bet, if you wanna mod, is to just hang on to all your OEM stuff. So if you ever wanna take it in for warranty work, just throw all the oem stuff back on before you take it down

Call the dealer you got your car from, most dealer would give you crap for using AEM's product(in matter of fact, most of the dealer's part department sell them)

just to make sure, talk to them and have they quoted

puma, you could guess all day long, but the best way is to have the dealer quote what's okay and what's not.

When I took my car in for a transmission fluid flush and change, they gave me all kinds of crap for having a CAI, Exhaust Headers, and a Strut Bar. Go Figure

Anyways, they didn't say that it voided any normal work, but any work that would have been caused from abuse ... I.E. Racing, Driving Like An ***, Etc ... would definitely not be covered!

tech line clearly states comptech parts void warranties despite what the dealer will tell you.

MOST dealers will only void a warranty for having an aftermarket part that may have caused the actual damage. Like springs causing your shocks to go bad or a short shifter kit destroying your synchros.

That's true for most dealerships I have been to and heard of.

Do an internet search for "Magnusen-Moss Warranty Act", print off a copy and take it w/ you to your dealer when you have warranty work performed. They CANNOT void a warranty unless they can PROVE that the aftermarket part DIRECTLY contributed to the malfunction...

Thank you guys for your help. I can't see how a cold air intake and headers from comptech could void honda warranty? Comptech only makes parts for honda. I guess I have to wait until 100,001 miles to get my parts. Thanks again.

You can add sway's a strut bar with no problems. Dealerships tend to frown on Headers and superchargers. A supercharger is a good way to void the whole warranty. So is the Unichip for the 6th gen Accord.

What were you going to install?

As bamachem stated, if your tranny goes out, the dealership couldn't void your warranty based on simple bolt-on's like an intake, headers, or exhaust.

However, if you have a 7th gen Accord with a 6MT and you upgraded to a light-weight flywheel you would void the tranny warranty.

Some dealerships will actually install Comptech products and cover them under your manufacturers warranty or extended warranty...now i dont know specifically if this applies to ALL honda cars, but i know that was the deal with our S2000, you can have the Comptech supercharger, intake icebox (if you dont get the supercharger), exhaust, strut bars and Tein springs installed at the dealership, and as long as they have it in their records that it was in fact installed by them, it is covered under warranty and still retains Comptech's warranty as well (again, this could be just the S2000, but i figured that would be silly to only offer it for one car, which is why it might benefit you to call and ask...you'll pay a grip for installation of things that are relatively easy to put on yourself, but it might be worth it in the long run).

Yes, and some Acura dealerships will install Comptech parts and not void the warranty. However, the tranny on the S2000 can handle the extra boost. The 6th and 7th gen Accord automatic tranny is crap.

^^^ Perhaps...but that doesnt mean that it wouldnt benefit someone to get an intake, springs and exhaust done at a dealership...and retain their warranty. (or atleast not have a headache in the future if you needed warranty work).

someone above mentioned how a short shifter can wear down synchro's, is this applicable to all short shifters? I wonder...
