Moving to So Cal. Do I need to sell my R to save it????
I am getting ready to move to the so cal area from NC and i was looking for some advice if i need to sell it. I know it is a target for theft out here and i dont want to see it go out like that. I love my car but i do not want to be writing a story about how it wasnt there in the morning like soooooooo many i have read on this forum. Any feedback is appreciated.

well your only 23 so i can only assume your moving here and will be renting. because if you can move and buy a house here you would be making enough money to not really be concerned about theft of the car . so with that said.
1. rent a place with a garage. and buy a commuter car. if you cant sell the car now
2. layer your security so that it takes you about 5 minutes to start your car. (hey you will spend more than 5 minutes in traffic so spending 5 minutes to start your pride and joy really isnt that much of a bother)
3. get a boot if you have to park outside.
4. move your hood release. ( the only way i can pop my hood is to jack my car up.. yea its gay but... theres no other way to get my hood open easily so it works.
5. get an alarm with a proximity sensor.
6. always.... park the car close to you as possible (at work and when your home) . if you cant sell the car.
7. never think for a minute that "oh i'll just run in and get something to drink" your **** will be gone.
8. take out your main relay
9. and most importantly.. if you cant hear a tow truck picking up your car...either at home or at work... you need to sell the car to someone who can protect it and who can keep it in plain site most of the time (if out) and under covers (if sleeping)...
10. sorry i couldnt think of anything for #10
ok im tired.

thanx for the input. My job is only 5 minutes from my house so i dont drive it far. I am gonna try to rent a place w/ a garage so hopefully it will stay under lock and key.
Is paranoia worth it? Only you can be the judge.
If I were you, I would leave the car in NC (parents') and enjoy it once in a blue moon until you have a house of your own.

#10: if you don't have lojack early warning system, get it. If you do, don't tell us.
Do a search if you don't know what it is.

you better knock on wood...and fast.
anyway if you cant keep it relatively safe (garage, blocked in, layered security, etc) then you might wanna get rid of it. itll only be a matter of time before its gone. but then again thats what insurance is for so if you dont mind dealing with that situation then keep it and let insurance cover you for the loss if/when it happens.

thx guys i will try to keep an arms length on it. I have good insurance but mine is kinda mint so if i loose it i am a$$ out. I have replaced every part that was not perfect on it. You will see it around in a few weeks. REDLINE Speed Shop will be westward bound!!!!!
you can always contact your insurance co and see if you can have it covered for a stated value. then atleast if anything happens you are covered for as much as you want. of course your premiums could go up some. but if it really is mint then you might be able to sell it for a very nice price.
i could always set some boobie traps...... i hope i can keep it cause i dont wanna look for another one. Its too much hassle. Anyways if anyone knows someone who wants one i put it on autotrader. 17,500. 01 py #675

Yeah, it really depends on where you live. I've left my 600rr out in a shopping plaza down the street for 10 hours with the keys in the ignition a few times and nobody touched it. Regardless; I'm bringing back a 98 itr and will garage it for most of the time.
When you moving over? I'll be driving mine from boston to san diego in a couple weeks short of some major catastrophe...
