Crower/Type S mix
I have read from previous posts in the past that Crower cams have a slightly better performance than Type S cams. I mean, the CR for the Type S has been beefed up to 11.0:1 and that's impressive enough for a stock car. But, with that in mind, would there be slightly more gains say if you rebuilt the block with Type S internals, but put built the head with Crower parts? I know there are pistons for an 11.5:1 CR, but this is assuming you just wanted to leave it at the Type S spec, just to say your "stock" Prelude is basically the same as a Type R Integras CP (11.1:1).
My car is in the shop currently getting a rebuilt block with .25mm OB Type-S pistons (ceramic coated by PowerDyn) and Eagle rods. Honda rods are weak so i wouldn't go for the type-s rods. Get Eagles, Endyn uses Eagle rods. With a fully built Crower head and a some nice pistons/rods, you'll definately benefit HP&TQ. I'm selling my Type-S cams for 500, they have less than 500 miles on them and are in mint condition.
Well, Crower makes about 4 or 5 different variations of camshafts for the H22A..
They make "Type S" replica cams.. that are no different than the JDM Type S cams.
But they have Stages 1, 2, and 3. All have a much more agressive ramp speed, mainly top-end 4000+ rpm power at the cost of a much weaker bottom end power band.
To answer your question, you could use Type S parts with Crower cams. However, depending on the Crower cams you use, you'll more than likely have to put in beefier valve springs/retainers to accomodate the new lift and durations on the more agressive Crower cams.
Stage 2 Crower cams generate 15 to 18 horsepower with basic bolt ons, and then you can add the Type S pistons to give you that 11:1 compression ratio and achieve maybe 10 more stallions.

I am doing a buildup right now close to what you are asking. I have I/H/E and pulleys now. I am getting Crower stage II cams, Type S pistons, SkunkII cam gears, and VAFC. I hope to get about 190+ to the wheels with this setup and proper tuning.
