Default Differences in auto transmissions

A friend of my dad's needs a trans in her EF and i said i would do it

Is there any difference in the a/t transmissions? What years will fit what?
He's getting more info on the car for me like year and body style.

I think they are all about the same for the d-series ef's. The splines on the axles are probably different between the 88-89 and 90-91's. If you need a 91 4spd I have one. It has 90k on it. Its free if you can come and claim it :-)
