Drilling 316 Stainless Steel
Just Wondering What Everyone Is Useing To Drill Stainless Or Pipe In General? I've Been Useing Lenox 2in Hole Saws. But Is Seems That I'm Going Through Them Faster And Faster. i Cant Even Get A Hole In My Merge Collector Without Eating Up At Least 2. I'm Running My Drill Press Right Aroung 350 RPM And Useing Plenty Of Oil. Any One Have A Better Way Or A Better Hole Saw. The Lenox Say For Bimetal. But They Seem To Have Large Teeth And Not Many Of Them.

DOM Tubing??? And are you useing the regular hole saw off the shelf or have you found one with a higher tooth count? The lenox worked ok when i was drilling 304 but now that I'm drilling 316 i can't seem to get them to last. Or work for that matter.

Kyle, you need the magic "frog juice"... I use Anchorlube G771 Exclusively with stainless. This stuff literally works miracles. http://www.anchorlube.com/ These guys should sell direct. I just drove over to their plant and picked up a case, perhaps 5 years ago...

Keeping the saw cool is the key to making it last. Trying to drill it fast will only build heat and dull the teeth quickly.
You can flush it with water while cutting, or even put the part in water and drill underwater (air tools reccomended, but if you use electric, keep the drill motor out of the water).
