Default fixing cast aluminum rims

i heard its possible to fix cracked aluminum rims but i cant seem to find anyone or any shops in PA or google. ;( is it possible? and does anyone know anyone?

i have a set of old konig wheels and one of them cracked in 3 places ;(

It could be done but would be expensive b/c you would have to have the whole rim heat treated after it is welded, so it may be cheaper to buy a single new one.

from what ive heard from many welders, the wheel has to be baked at 475 for acouple days before a weld can even touch it.

You have to heat treat it after you weld the cast aluminum rim b/c after you add the heat of the welder yoe lose the stregnth of the wheel. Heat treating it brings most f the strength back. This normally wouldn't be a huge issue but since you are messing with the temper of a wheel it becomes a big problem.

actually most cast aluminum (wheels, bellhousings, etc) need to be heated up prior to welding them, many times they crack when welding them and sometimes when cooling after the welding, as far as the heat treating afterwards goes, i have no idea
