changing rods is it that hard?
i think i have blown rings i smoke blue SOMETIMES i would say 20% of the time which is weird and only if i use 5th gear to decelerate. anyways teh head is brand new so i dont think its the valve guides. anyways i have never did it before i was wondering if it was that hard? and i have acess to a lift. this is how i think its done...remove oil pan, remove crank arm craddle thing. then piston comes out. i know this is simple but can someone give me a lil more detailed or how long it takes. i have a mini me adn what new/used pistons/rods do you guys suggest. this is the time i guess i decide to either turbo or do NA and go for higher compression. suggestions? thx in advance
you can take them out the bottom just as you described. not a very hard deal, especially with a lift. 10 times easier. and if your going n/a use p29 pistons for nice compression, new rings and bearing for sure. its also a good idea to hone the block and possibly bore for oversize pistons.

You need to hone the cylinder walls to ensure good seal on the new rings.

You can't remove from the bottom. The main bearing webbing prevents that. The skirt will hit this.

argh...so i have to pull apart teh bottom end adn the top to get the pistons out..and after that hone the walls and what not....well i guess there goes that idea....i was trying to do it in one night. and i def cant just take my motor out and take it to a shop around here...CAUSE THER ARE NONE! oh well...i guess ill just stick with N/A till it blows then d15b time
pull the whole motor, EASY ****. rip it apart, Also you might need a ridge remer for the top. Its not that easy to just replace rings. hell if your going to pull the motor anyway. might as well swap it.
take the head off. lift it up. pull the pan. take off the girdle and rod bolts. replace bearings if needed. hone. reverse the process. not that hard. you can do all of this while its in the car and you could do it in a day easily. if your going for na then use pm7 pistons or p29's and if your going fo boost you could use y7 pistons (you said you had a mini me right. and im assuming its an a6 bottom end. this set up will put you at perfect compression for a turbo. ) and an ls rod machined down and all that good stuff and you should be able to hold a good amount of power.
well i dont want to swap motors. i want to stay SOHC and as i stated before if this gets to be to much of a pain or to much money im just going to swap in a d15B. but the z6 head is freshly rebuilt with about 1k miles on it. im not even 100% sure its the rings...just weird how im burning oil only sometimes. oh well...honda life is a hard one..
Its really not that big of a deal. just yank the head off, take off your oil pan and baffle plate and pickup, take off the rod caps bump the pistons out. It shouldn't take more than a days worth of work or a good weekend. If the head is freshly rebuilt then just take your time to work with this motor. You can do it dont give up!
