start up/timing issues help please.
okay so I have been having issues starting up after the car being off for a number of hours.I have a walbro 255 pump with an msd ignition and aem ems. I have to try starting 3 or 4 times before it will actually start up. and then when it doesn start sometimes it will idle down and die again. I just figured it was in the timing or in the ignition settings (which I am not sure how to change) so I was going to wait until after I got tuned by mase to see if it fixed the problem. But having to wait due to lack of funds I decided to check the only thing that I could. the spark plugs (denso IK24 iridium). they were all carboned up (not too bad just a good solid layer). I know I am running rich but I didnt think it would effect starting. so I cleaned the plugs and it started up like a charm. only problem was I made a few trips and went home. the next morning same problem. So my actual question is should I go with a hotter plug to burn the extra fuel? any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks Jon
ginoboy1978 (10:05 AM 5/18/2005): i had the same problem....what year is your car. I was using NGK BKR7E spark plugs gapped @ .030(they were too cold and too tight of a gap). Next day i got NGK BKR6E and gapped them to .035 (worked alot better). I also disconnected my evap purge control solenoid.....this improved my idle and throttle response even more.......now my car starts up and idles perfectly. I'm running 440cc injectors and chipped obd1 ecu. Whats your setup?
