Wondering about a product....
hey all-
I was wondering if anyone made a hard tonneau cover for the S2000, other than Veilside. theirs is way too big. I am looking for something similar to the Racing Beat hard tonneau for the Miata. Something that can be broken into 3 pieces and stored in the trunk. I know several guys on the s2ki.com forum are interested if anything like this is made.
Here is the link to the Racing Beat one:

That actually looks pretty good...i personally dont know of any outside the ugly VIS one (that i have sitting in our garage, given to us but after looking at it, decided not to use it...bleh), but that one is subtle enough, might actually look decent.
Yeah, I had one for my 1st generation Miata and it was great. It paints to the same color as the car, breaks down into 3 pieces and takes up barely any room in the trunk (all pieces are basically flat).
Do you know of anyone with this kind of manufacturing capability? I contacted Racing Beat, and they told me if they were to do it (which they cant because they are only into Mazda parts), it would cost $1500 for a Master Mold to be made, then an additional $2000-2500 for the cast mold to be made from the master mold. This seemed WAY high, and geared more towards mass production. I am looking for someone to make some of these for around $300-350 and make a few dozen of them at a time, not a few thousand.
thanks

I think you'd have better luck on s2ki.com to see if perhaps you could get enough legitimate interest, to show that company so that they would see that making them would actually bring them profit even at the price of $300-$500. I know a few body shops that do alot of custom work and widebodies on cars, but i doubt their estimates would be any better than what you saw...and really, that kind of money they were talking, might as well just get a hardtop and be happy with it...
