Default pinging..need help!!!!

Hey, eaverytime I shut off my car I get an agressive pinging sound from the front of the engine...sounds like it could be the headers!!! I have a 2000 civic coupe with a jdm b18b, with Si cold air intake, japan Si 5zeigen 4-2-1 polished headers and custom 2 1/4 inch exhaust line ( with Cat ) I haven't done the timing on the engine yet, I just put it in the middle!!! Car seems to run great but I'm concerened about the pinging!!

Need help please!!
Thanks Pat

If it's a kind of pinking and tapping noise it is most likely your heat sheilds. Go under there and tighten them and see if it goes away.

I just have the headers, no heat shields!!! It's only pinking!! Is it normal with just headers no heat shields or should I keep looking?

Are you running with a cat? If so, check the cat heat shields. They like to ping too. Also there are heat shields on the mid section under the car. They are bolted to the underside of the floor pan. One day I got sick of the pinging from them and just tightened them all down. Then I took those metal straps and strapped my cat heat shield down tight. No noise since .

Well if it's just when he shuts off the car then no. He said it's running good. Most of the time a pinging (improper timing set) will be most noticeable when at higher engine rev's. Often a car can have the wrong timing and not ping when at idle. This was the cas with my old Si. I would suggest to check and correct your timing and see if it stops. But only pinging when the car gets shut off is not directly related.

maybe one header keeps bumping the other, there is only room for one in a honda engine bay. seriously though, i bet its something loose in your engine bay if it only happens when you shut off the engine. If it happens while driving, check your timing.
