ok, here is what you do. Find a junk yard selling a del sol tranny. same year as your car. I have a 92 vx, and my tranny went out, so i tryed a del sol tranny, IT KICKED!!!! much smaller gears, WAY faster car!!! I gurantee it. Best move you can do. cost about $250 from salvage yard. GO FOR IT!!!!

Really??? Yeah, so which del sol model?? probably si?? I have a 92 VX too. I'm looking for a b16 to drop in it, but cash restricted at the moment. I'm saving up, and if this tranny doesn't last me, I guess I would end up looking into that.

yeah just get a D16Z6 tranny instead of fixing yours. It has better gear ratios, which will improve acceleration.

Yup. I can keep up to my brothers 2001 Z24 with the del sol tranny. She burns the tires in second easy. And you know you can never do that with the stock vx tranny. It was fun. Im putting a b18c motor into my car now, so I don't need my motor or tranny. But my tranny is junk. first and second gear don't work half the time. some times it works, but not always. I don't know whats wrong with it. its junk,

so the best way to improve the vx's performance is to swap the tranny for the del sol's? this wouldnt effect gas mileage any would it?

I've got a PHRUQIN' VX too!

I never knew that the del sol tranny would fit. Sounds like a good mod for $250.

wheresmyvxhb: Yes it would affect gas mileage because shorter (higher in number) gear ratios cause for higher RPM at every speed.

Ex: If, with your stock tranny you were at 2800 RPM @ 65 mph, with the del sol tranny you would be at say... 3500 RPM @ 65 mph. Get it?

wheresmyvxhb: Sorry, I don't know the exact gear ratios of either tranny but I would like to know what they are.

Does anyone else know them?

OK. and the answer to the question abuot gas mileage:
Ok you will be at hgiher R's at 65 MPH. But it depends on how you get up to 65 MPH. With my stock VX tranny, I was always reving it out to 6000 rpm to get up to speed. I bet on the car, but it just wasn't fast. but with the del sol's tranny, I didn't have to rev it out in every gear. SO you really don't use any mroe gas. Its better in town, but not in highways. but not that different. I have this road by my house, and its like 1/4. Stock tranny: about 70 mph at 1/4, with the del sol tranny, I gained about 15 mph. ANd its fun to spin the tires in second gear. its the best up-grade, oh yeah, and cut out the stupid box on the end of the intake (behind bumper) then its cold air, and it sounds sweet. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!
P.S. who care about the auctial gear number between the trannys, I just know that the del sol tranny kicks A**

Mista Bone: Thanks a lot.
Now I see why it will help to put the D16Z6 tranny in my VX. Every gear (except 1st) is shorter (higher number).
Anyone selling their tranny or know of a good place to get one used in the Los Angeles area?

Just want to add one more thing.

Yes, It will effect gas milage because you will have the engine spinning at higher RPM's then when you had the VX tranny at the same speed.

I.E. HX at 80 mph =3000 RPM
EX at 80 mph =3500 RPM.

WEll, see, I actally had the del sol tranny in my car. Your saying the gas milege thing by thery, btu I know for a fact that it didn't affect the gas milege. I actally got better milage because I would shift sooner, and save gas, I know its at higher r's at higher speeds, NO KIDDING!!!!!! DUR!!!!!!! But the vx motor hardy uses gas at 3500 rpm, let alone 3000 rpm. its at the higher RPM's where it matters, but like im saying, you aren't at 6500 rpms that much with the del sol tranny. thats ALl I was tring to say. THe little hatch hardly uses gas no matter what. I don't really care, but I wanted to clear it up, cause i know from EXPERIENCE!!!!!!

just get a whole tranny. Swapping FD's is not fun and requires a deft touch to get the clearances correct.

haha...sorry to bring this thread out from the dead...(whoa..that rhymed)..but I was wondering if all that was nessecary was changing the trannys out...

does anything else need to be changed for the Z6 tranny to work in a VX motor?? like driveshafts...hubs...anything like that?? or will the driveshafts fit directly into the Z6 tranny?

Thanx, yos.

According to Honda for some reason VX has longer gears then a CX does? Can someone explain this? Taken from 1992 VX users manual
