Default 2 small annoyances with my 97 Accord

Any opinions on what parts I might need to fix the following:

Passenger window goes down with driver control, but not back up. Window goes up with passenger window control.

"Lock Doors" button locks all doors but the driver door. The only way to lock the door is to hold the handle out from the outside, push the lock button down, and holding the handle, close the door.

With appreciation in advance for any help,

S

i dunno bout the window problwm...but i know that my 96 accord..if the drivers door is open, you have to pull the handle to lock it,otherwise it wont lock. my gf's 97 civic did the same thing...i guess its something honda has done as some sort os safety precaution?

I guess I have to start posting sometime right? My 90 Accord does the thing with the locks too, as does my mom's 91 Accord. Every Honda I've seen that has power locks will not allow the driver's door to lock if the door's open. I believe Honda started doing this to prevent people from locking their keys inside their car.

I'm wondering if the 'problem' is that or not. Can you still lock the door with a key and does the door lock while it's closed?

1) Door lock problem
Direct from the owners manual
Drivers door will not lock while the door is open. The system is intended to work such that by insisting that the door be closed first, there is no chance of locking the keys in the car.
2) I suspect the drivers master control switch; dirt in the contacts most likely.

Oh, the only stupid question I've ever ever known was the one never asked

the driver door won't lock with the door open OR closed, using the locking control. In order to lock the car, you must keep the outside handle pulled to the opening position, hold down the lock button, and push the door closed while holding the handle in the "pulled open" position.

It's def. busted

For your door, its the door lock actuator. Replace it and your problem will be solved. As far as the rear window not going up, replace the left front window switch assembly.

I had the same problem with my window's, if you take the switch out and clean the contacts you can get another 5 years out of it at least.

You do not have to buy a new window control assembly. I had the same problem, and the fix was as easy as taking it apart and cleaning the contacts with sone sandpaper and rubbing alcohol. Works flawlessly and cost me nothing.

Here's the scoop on the door lock. Push down on the lock control while pulling the door handle on the INSIDE. Let go of the door handle and shut the door. The door will be locked. If you try to hold the handle on the outside while pushing the lock control you will have to stretch really far and look like a dweeb.

About the window control. Clean the contacts, but never, ever use sandpaper. Contact cleaner will do the trick; use Q-tips to get a wonderful cleaning action going.... you'll be glad you did. It may change your life. Maybe not....

agree with recomm. about driver door power lock accuator likely culprit.
mine was intermittantly clicking, so replaced.
my 1st attempt, i did not properly insert the latch nipple into the new accuator slot and the consequences were like your problem. the door locks switch did not allow the drivers door to lock while the others would lock. also had to hold outside handle to get drivers door to close. very funky.
after providing better access and inserting nipple into slot all now work fine like new. sucess.

perhaps your accuator is seperating from its mount on the door latch.

i posted details on this fix about a month ago.

well i got the window control apart and tried to clean the contact... but it's next to impossible to get under the contact (obviously the most important part) unless there is some secret to going in the back of the switch that I missed? I know it's the contact, because when I stuck a Q-Tip on top of the lower contact and pushed down, the passenger window went up - I even tried to bend the contact a little bit by pushing on it from the top, but it didn't work. Is there a way to get the plastic part of the top of the switch off? I wanted to try to pop it off but it didn't want to go, and I didn't want to break it.

Thanks for the advice on the door lock.. you said you posted a thread about this a month ago, do you have a link?

On the door issue, take the door pannel off and you might just find the rod is loose in the door. There are little plastic retainers that hold those together. If a lock out was ever done on it that might have broken it, or forcing it to unlock when it's frozen.

The clips are cheap and easy to replace. If the clip from the lock cycl. is broken then you need to get a new one and replace that.

As for the switch issue, seeing as it works one way on one side and the other on the other. Then your switches are bad.

If you tried to clean the pass side then do the driver side too, but be careful its held in on the inside of the pannel by two screws. So can not pry it off.

if cleaning it does not help then replace both sides after testing the pass one with another if four door if not just have to replace and hope.

Good luck

For the window controls there should be a couple of screws holding it onto the door panel, take those out and then take it apart and clean the contacts with some rubbing alcohol. If I remeber right the black toggle switches pull off and clip back on, it's easy to do but you have to remove it from the door panel.
