New to Civic scene
So I’m new to the car scene I have passed mechanics 90% and up I know how to do stuff rebuild engines I have done several 4 cylinder and lots of V8’s lots of rebuilding dirt bike engines trannies ect. Just a little intro so your not talking to a complete DUMB DUMB
So I bought a 1989 Honda civic IN mint condition no scratches no rust no rust in the wheel wells all the struts and shock towers are in mint. Engine runs just fine with 220k on it. Brand new clutch brand new wires and sparkplugs and new Distributor cap too. It’s previous owner was a chick WOOTT!! My questions are simple what kind of mods other than these should I do or could do ?
I’m planning on doing :
Header.
Exhaust from header back.
Cold air Intake
Strut bars
Cam Don’t know what kind ? ( help )
Chip is kind of expensive ?
Any thing im missing that I can do to get more performance till I have enough money to buy a B16 engine. ? Id like toin the future to install a turbo kit later on..

Yeah but for now i have to use it. And save up for a new one. Finding one might be hard too.. I could go to a junk yard and get a used one and rebuild it with new pistons and rings cam ect ect new machined head. But for now i have to use this one.

Wellit is my first * RICE ROCKET * as my friend's call them but id like to do a engine swap for sure. Just money is not on my side yet with that option. Any other things i can do to this engine ?
You should just save up some money for now and use the stock motor till its time is up. If your looking to use the car in a track you should work on the internals and head not mention the tranny. If your looking to go circut you should rip out the interior and have a roll cage installed and you'll still need some work done on that engine/trans and suspension. You can do alot with this little box car, money is still required even though your a mechanic, but you'll save some $$$
This is not for drag racing. It is my normal driving car but i do not want a stock 96hp car : O) id like to push about 300hp maybe 250hp. i cant see me getting more than 150 out of this stock engine.. So ill go for a B16 maybe even something else.. I'm guessing that they start about 3k canadian and higher .. what should i be looking for in a auto wrecker what kind and type of car's ?

if your planning on swapping in another engine, i would just save ur money for that and dont worry about internals for it.

Yeah that sux that they bash things that will win.. MY friend says his s10 with a 350 in it is better i say take it to the **** hole and burn it. a 350 is heavy and totally waste of time to put into a s10 just a waste. Me id rather have my rice mobile : O ) it will sure suck to pull up beside him and leave him there wondering why my car beat him.. : O )
If you have $3000 to spend your more then covered on a swap. You can buy a jdm b16 for cheap with shipping included I believe. You just have to surf the net or EABY. The hatchback(s) in genarl move with dohc motors.
Welcome...I have to say save up your money and get a swap you will be more satisfied in the end. Otherwise you will waste to much money they will rag on you more for dumping a ton of money into an engine that doesn't perform all that great. I'd let them have there straight line work on suspension and tires then the swap.

ummm I dunno how a 350 sucks but, w/e. for your car just swap the motor in there is pretty much worthless. Do things now like wheels tires brakes body work etc then read up whats needed for a B swap. You could probbly snag a b18a pretty cheap also a good swap.
I haven't done a swap on my car or anything, but everyone here so far has recomended to go to http://www.hmotorsonline.com for any engine you want to buy. I don't have a muffler though and my hatch kicks my moms 2003 civic lx with the 1.7's ***. Just a question not to jack the thread or nothin but does anyone think new honda is better or worse?
well, i thought the new ones came with the k20 or something, if thats true they are obviosly better then the old civics. but i dont like the way they look, and i dont like where the shifter is either.
whats funny is that my friend with a z24 cavalier sais he will beat my civic no matter what i do to it. right now i probly wont beat it cause the stock dx engines blow ****, plus the 4 speed bs. but all its gonna take is a completely stock b16 with the 5 speed and hes done.
yeah I think it does come with the k20 but the hp is only 160 and I thought the like 99-00 si's had that with like a 1.6? Correct me if I'm wrong, its been a while since I read about the newer civics as in 96 and up.
if you said it, i'm blind. but what model civic? si, dx, std, ex, lx, etc?
if its the si, your engine isn't *that*bad (goes for the ex, too, same engine). this car is also better for swaps, because it has most of the wiring.
the others really suck, it just depends on how much they suck. plus they have dual point fuel injection (which is like throttle body injection with two injectors) and a lot of rewiring has to happen for a swap.
good luck.

If you want cheap if your on a budget go with the ZC swap. It's a direct bolt in and your looking at 130hp. Thats what I did with my CRX. It's peppy now but I still want more so the engine is going to come out and be rebuilt from the ground up for turbo. I spent about 1000 on the swap.
DUDE do you have more info on this please ? 1000$ is right in my price range. And i know i could rebuild te engine later on i could do that my self. new pistons port polish new head new rings maybe balanced crank. Could this stock 96hp engine after rebuild handle a turbo ? Doyo have msn or any thing we can talk on ? Or some links i can look at ?
Thanks man..

Head over to...www.thezcr.com, the whole site is dedicated to the ZC DOHC. Lots of great info plus I think theres a zc swap for 600 on there.
jleaman you have one of the nicest interiors. My **** is cracked everywhere. The surface that meets the windshield (2 cracks), right vent fucked up, the flat surface on top of the dash (2 big cracks), hatch too.. lol, goes on and on. and you got half the miles i got!! haha. As well as you, I am going with a temporary sohc zc untill I get some money for my allmotor b16
