Default A/C Repair options

The texas heat is getting to me and im not sure what I should do to fix my ac. I searced some and most people do not recomend converting to r134a cause it dosent cool worth **** in a r12 system.

Im not sure if there is a leak in my system but is the only way to check to charge it? I don't really want to do that cause r12 is damn expensive just to have it leak out if I do have a leak.

Anyone have experience with r12 supplements? Not exactly what these are but a few people swear they work as a r12 replacement and they are fairly cheap.

The one big thing people overlook when "ripping out"
the a/c is its ability to defrost/defog the windows in
inclement weather..

First of all,Do you know if the compressor is coming on or not?
Also,does the interior fan work?
One of the most common places for the system to lose pressure
is the high/low service valves which are where you hook up the gauges..

I have used the stuff called "Freeze-12" and it works fairly well
especially if the ambient temperature is below 100 degrees..
But>Last time I checked it was as expensive as R-12 due to an
"industry-created shortage" designed to drive up the price..
