Default opinions on late 80s model CBR 600 hurricane...

What are your thoughts on them? I'm looking for a bike and I am a new rider. I kinda like the looks of the bike. Are they quick?reliable?etc.? Oh, BTW I am 5'11"-6' and 220lbs. Are they comfortable bikes? Sorry for the newbie questions, and yes I have searched older topics.

I had a 91 cbr (it was a hurricane with cbr emblems, honda changed the name of it due to lawsuits or something..... )

Anyways, it had like 32 k miles on it when i got it. I put a good 12k on it before it was totalled. Hit by a car and took a ditch at 45mph. Honda has and still does make reliable bikes. I am 5'10 - 5'11 150lbs and it was comfortable for me.

One of the guys i sometimes ride with has an 88 hurricane. He is ~6'1-6'3 180lbs or so. He has it lowered slightly and he looks a little big on it, but he loves it. As for performance, it is a little down on power as compared to a f2/f3/f4i but......

As a starter bike it is perfect. It is comfortable, built rock solid and very forgiving if ya make a newbie mistake.

If you can get it for a good price, I say go for it. Don't do like my buddy did, he bought an 88 hurricane from powersports of clearwater for 3500. He could have had a much newer one for alot cheaper. His used to be a racebike, and there were things jerry rigged like fuel lines and the carbs needed work, but all in all it is a good bike.

I've been checking them out and they go for about $1200-1500, but I saw one for $500 and the guy says it needs $200-300 worth of engine repair.hmm

when he says 200-300 worth of engine work. Did he tell you exactly what is wrong with it???? Just as a side note, my buddy took a 95 zx7r in to have the engine tuned up. It was running perfectly fine, just could have used a valve adjustment and whatnot. 5 months later 2 grand more, he has a completely rebuilt motor with a few goodies.

Trust me when you are talking engine work it gets expensive. I had a f2 motor that the spark plug threads in the head were stripped out. The cheapest mechanic wanted 400 bucks to remove the head and retap the threads.

Find out what the problem it is and let me know, otherwise spend the extra money and get one that is in good running condition.

One other thing, plastics are hard to find for those bikes unless you buy aftermarket. If ya look on ebay, i usually see 1 -2 hurricanes per month being parted out.
