i dunno about what you need to do with the freon or whatever refidgerant that is currently in there. if its still freon, then you SHOULD responsibly dispose of it. you shouldnt just release it, destroys ozone...

otherwise, all the mechanical stuff just unbolts and you can toss or sell on ebay. i sold a few bits on ebay when i took my stuff off.

what you WILL need is the duct from the heater core to the blower that sits behind the glove box if you remove the AC evaporator that is currently there. look for it in the junkyard, ebay or ask around.

how much does the evaporator weigh? is it worth ripping out?

the evaporator and everything can't weigh more than 5 pounds, its just like an aluminum heater core.

i had it out, but i never weighed it.

i wouldn't bother unless you're pulling your dash for something else.

The evaporator coil weighs 6.5 lbs.

i sepearted the plenum and removed the evaporator. Then filled in the holes in the plenum with tape. If you remove the evaporator, find a rubber grommet from a civic w/o AC to patch the hole in your firewall.

i had brass caps on the lines until i pulled the evap coil.

until i sourced the replacement duct, i did just leave the evaporator in place, and wrapped the open nipples with a rubber glove to prevent anything to go in there.

6.5 lbs or not, why keep it in there? find the replacement. its not hard to get at, you dont have to replace the dash, just remove the glovebox, two 10mm bolts.

yeah, you need the duct to connect the blower to the heater core.

it looks like from the above link that you can gut your evaporator as a makeshift duct. the OEM duct is a much simpler piece however.

btw, how hard was it to remove that evaporator? pretty damn easy right...

What about the drain tube that associated with the evap.? Is it strictly for draining moisture build up (when A/C is on) or is it also used as a drain for the heater core in case it leaks?
