Default EASY WAY TO CUT WEIGHT....

Saw this on that show "Horsepower" on Spike tv. Where the spare tire/jack sit inside that sump on the body, cut that out, run a thick beed of silicone, & replace with flat sheet metal. Then paint it w/e color u want to protect from rust. If u wana go a step further, toss ur stock gas tank, & get a 8gl fuel cell, & mount it on top of the sheet metal. This way ull cut lots of weight+have much better air flow under the car.....

cutting the back part out of a car isnt really worth the weight u will save by the time i brace it back up. Plus it will keep you out of running certain classes. If its just a street weekend car i say go for it. If u want to compete in classes i wouldnt do it.

I hope you brace that fuel cell properly instead of just mounting it on top of the sheet metal.

sounds like a good idea, too bad i can't do that to stay legal for the allmotor street class.

I would say plug the sunroof and get a trunk lid, but im still not sure if i can do that. the rules don't say anything about plugging the sunroof, so im confused.

sounds good for a trunk in a 62 buick that is 200lbs. i made the mistake of doing it to a car i drove around on the street a while back.. inside of the car always smelled like exhaust and could never put **** in the trunk, and was a pain in the *** to sell the car. and in the end it didnt weigh that much. i even cut the lining on the trunk lid. when i would pop the trunk it would come flying open.

I think sunroof plugs are okay, since factory glass isn't all that safe in a rollover.

really? didn't mean to jack the thread, just made the sunroof and trunk lid suggestion which is a nice reduction. but thanks for the info. just wasn't sure if ppl in the allmotor street class can still plug the sunroof with carbon fiber, let alone any other material, since you can only use a CF hood or fenders.

what they fail to mention is that when you remove your stock fuel tank, the rear crossmember creates a large airflow restriction.
