Brighter LED gauge cluster bulbs
I just ordered some wide vewing angle LED's for my gauge cluster. I am getting the DEFI BF white lit gauges and thatr would make my current white lighting on the gauge cluster look like ****. (I have hyperwhites now)
I had the amber 194 bulbs before and they were alright, pretty bright, but still not like the brightness of OEM vehicles such as BMW's and the nissan altima's. I am pretty sure they use LED lighting.
Anyway, I have a question. I know if you stuck the regular LED (round tip) in the 194 twist in sockets, it would not look as good because the light is not distributed evenly. That's why I ordered the reveresed dome LED's. with the hopes of it coming out nice and bright white (like OEM lexus and others)
I hope it will turn out alright. Anyone else try these? (If no one has tried them, yet they work well, I'll just use this as a reference thread for people who want to upgrade) BTW, I searched and found this site, but no comments on it.

These are the bulbs I ordered (descreption):
WLED-W White LED bulb
12VDC White 1-LED Wedge Base Bulb (194/168 type)with Wide Viewing Angle
Inverted cone clear lens causes the light to emit from the sides as well as the end. Built in current limiting resistor and diode to protect the LED from reversed polarity installation
so I'm hoping this works!

you're right. regular LED's will emit much more direct light, so instead of having a nice even lighting on your guages, you will have like pin spots of really bright light, and dimmer in others. you went w/ the right choice.

the EXACT ones i ordered? cuz if you click the link it says made for instrument clusters.......(and im pretty sure the compan knows that they are not using one LED to light each line/numer on the tachometer/speedometer)
or did you use the REGULAR ROUND TIP led's?

No the LED's I used were like the ones that almost look like 3 bulbs in one.

they absolutely sucked....don't get em. Unless you want to do a custom cluster with a ton of LED's behind the gauges, then it's not going to look good.
If it doesnt get answered here I'll make another thread
BUT.....
Has anyone ever taken apart a cluster, what does it look like behind the gauges? Does anyone have a picture?

i got mine from cardomain or something. Still they are all the same. It coulda been just the blue ones. But it was really crappy. I think the light output on those reverse domes are very very low. The regular led's throw out much brighter light but in a narrow space. I got desperate and drilled in 4 regular 5mm leds in my cluster. I don't have it anymore because i have a new teg. But that **** was bright. Pictures don't do it justice.
ehh....but the needles arent lit up like they are supposed to be. I want the oem lexus look....(or like the defi's)
