Remove stock intake and box, any gains?
If I were to remove the stock intake box and pipe so that it was just an open throttle body, would there be any problems? Would there be any hp gains?
Ud do this with no air filter on the throttle body? If so, that is not smart at all...
NA's need a velocity stack, such as the intake elbow to smooth out incomming airflow into the engine, it would probably restrict air intake into the engine if you removed the elbow.
Dont get ghetto dude, keep the 5th gen clean

i know in the 4th gen you cam remove the piping crap that is outside the engine bay and sort of turn your intake into a cold air. I did that for time being until i can buy another intake. I think it makes a little different. The stock piping under the box just sucks hot air in from the engine bay, and twists and turns the air all around. So there has to some gains, but how much in that case i do not know.
with the open throttle body...you can really mess some stuff up, especially if it was to suck something in.

my guess would be that with ITB's it allows each cylinder to EVENLY suck air in. With just an open throttle body i could try to suck so much air into the 4th cylinder that it may starve cylinder one for air. Now i cant say that for sure but it does seem reasonable. The only thing that makes ITB's what they are is the fact that it can get quick, even distibution of air through the cylinders and can also allow a TON of air to be sucked in..but evenly. That would be my theory!

i dont think they do
I wouldent put that on my car.
plus you spend so much on them for not the much of a gian.
I like turbo better

they dont. most use itb for race applications. but u can get little filters for them if your really that concerned about getting stuff in your engine. I've run my old stock si numerous times without a filter and never ran into any problems. although this was only at the track.
