Default 1994 Accord EX does't start consistently

Hello all,

My Accord won't start all the time. When I turn the ignition, there is a clicking sound, but the engine doesn't turn over. If I turn the ignition a couple times, sometimes it will start right up.

If that doesn't work, if I jump start it with another vehicle, it will start right up. I have had the battery tested and it is good. This is not an everyday thing but it always happens at the worst time. Help!

Starter? Does it just make one click each time you turn the key to start it?

Sometimes. Usually, I have to jump start it in order for it to start.

i doubt it's the starter, you wouldnt hear a click if it's the starter. you should check how many CCA you hav left in your battery or fluids, or if anything's draining your battery.

most likely the contacts in your starter solenoid are worn down to much. try removing the starter and going to have it checked. i had the same problem with my integra and i was able to fix it for about $10 worth of parts form an electrical supply store and 2 hours of labor.

Heh, I been through this. Check your battery terminals, and make sure they have a very good connection to the battery. So clean the terminals aon the battery, and try to shave the metal a bit to make it a little smoother. Clean the terminals on the wires, and if it's really bad, cut them off and get aftermarket terminals. I had this problem, and this cleaned it right up. The reason jump starts probably worked, was because you made a better connection to the other persons battery than to your own. Starting the car sucks alot of current, and if you cant get a good clean connection to the battery, this is what would happen most of the time.

first of all if you have a bad stareter it will make just a click ,,try a quick test... have someone try to start car and you get under hood with a big screwdriver, when it wont start and just clicks hit the starter if it turns over you got a bad starter

Thanks all. I will try those suggestions. I had the starter replaced about a year ago. I've also noticed I get a lot of corrosion on the terminals and cables. i might try to replace those first.

I also read something about the main relay. Could that cause the symptoms?

clean the battery cables and terminals real good it might be all it needs and no the relay would not make the car just click when you try startint it it will crank normally but it will not make it start if relay is faulty
