any d series motor will drop right in. except the d16a1 or a8 or somethin like that. if you go vtec of course you have to wire up the vtec and get an obd0 - obd1 conversion or you could go with a chipped ps9 and stay obd0. the best bang for your buck would probably be the dohc zc. and what trim is the crx (I.E. dx hf si)? if its dx you need to do an mpfi swap. which involves a bit of wiring but its not too treacherous.

Like you said without having to cut and weld, that leaves the H-series and K-series engines out of it. Which means you can swap in any b-series motor/tranny or D-series.

D-series: I would either go with the DOHC ZC, it drops right in and 130 hp right off the bat. Or, I personally like the D16Z6/D16Y8. You should run them obd-1 and you got vtec. All are 1.6 liters.

B-series: Little heavier than the D-series, but still a bolt in affair with the proper mounts (hasport). If you are strapped for cash, get a b18b or b18a (practically the same motor) and both are relitavely cheap and are great for turbos. Then there is the b16a, you should know what that engine is. Then you have the B18Cs. The GSR motor and the ITR, you will need atleast 4k to get those into a crx.

Also: if the crx is a DX only, then you need to convert to MPFI (multi-point fuel injection). If it is a Hf or Si, then you already have MPFI. And some D series and B series engines are obd-1, so in addition you will have to convert from obd 0 to obd 1

And search owns you. Like mentioned above.

B Series you have to cut the front mount off to fit.

you don't really have to cut the mount off, theres some exhaust manifolds/headers that clear it.

plus, it doesn't really matter if you cut it off, because its the crossmember, and not the actual car.

I have a ZC in my hatch and it runs really well just do some research on common problems and dont expect to take it to high in the RPM range. As well aftermarket for these are really rare. I would suggest Z6 unless you can get ALOT of custom made parts. Z6 single pushes almost the same as the DOHC ZC but Z6 has more aftermarket support
