Default Warranty Concerns

I am thinking about getting a set of cams for my R, but worried about the complete warranty being expired, i have 7yr/100,000 mile warranty on it, im at about 40k right now, if i put in the cams, does the complete warranty for the car get voided or the head, motor, etc. Thanks

I think it would run the risk of voiding the whole warranty. If you lucky maybe not the suspension.

Best thing you can do is check your warranty paperwork - or call the provider.

The warranty does not cover any damage caused by aftermarket mods. Put on cams, and they will blame any engine problems on them. However, your warranty on the suspension, brakes, stereo, etc should still be valid - unless you do something to modify them, too.

Just do the upgrade right and there shouldn't be any problems. The cams are OEM so it's not like you doing anything crazy. Just do your research and take your time. Honda engines are like legos and they last. But i do understand about the warranty issue. Warranty work sux anyways.

Go to the SEMA website (http://www.sema.org) and find the blurb they have about warranties and aftermarket parts. I believe it states something about the Magnuson (sp?) Moss Act which requires comapnies to repair your vehicle under warranty unless the aftermarket part is the cause of the failure.

Any engine related problem (mechanical) I would think would *not* be covered, transmission, iffy, but everything else should probably be okay IMO. Call your warranty provider too (as suggested) to get an understanding of their perspective. Even if it is covered ultimately, you wouldn't want to have to fight and end up in court to get something fixed. It's just easier to not install the cams if they're going to have a big problem with them.

Just my $.02

You can always take them out if something went wrong, before you take the car in for warranty work. Just put the stockers in there. (suddenly the light goes on)

This is called "fraud" and it's illegal. And Honda does keep track of owners who attempt to secure warranty coverage this way - don't expect to be treated well if you get caught.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have plans of swapping in some cams, JDM final drive, and upgrade my clutch&flywheel. I even wanted to put in a V-AFC but after much thought, I decided to wait until I hit 50,000 miles. If you can't wait, listen to George Knighton's advice about cancelling your extended warranty and getting some of your money back.

hey my dealership actually doesn't care about my mods, they actually like them
My DEALERSHIP is the one installing my toda flywheel and exedy clutch, they are not charging me to take it down, but they are charging me to put it back together ($300). They alway comment on my mugen stuff and sometimes show my car off the potentail buyers and state "This is what can be done to these cars", Hey I think I have the best dealership in the country!!!!!

If you can wait until 50,000 miles then god bless you man, but the modd bug will bite you soon and the warrenty won't mean that much to you anymore

Make sure they're actually putting the flywheel and clutch into your car and not keeping it for themselves. I've grown VERY suspicious of dealers
