NHRA has announced a new sport compact organization
http://www.nhrasportcompact.co...id=11
Joshua Peterson was named general manager of sport compact racing at NHRA to replace Javier. The key thing seems to be his previous experience...
Before joining NHRA, Peterson was a product analyst for the Pontiac-GMC Division, and for three years before that, was program manager for General Motors Racing Division’s front wheel drive drag racing program.
Does not seem to me that he would have any feelings for the imports. Seems to me like GM has completed it's takeover of NHRA Sports Compact.
What is your opinions? Am I right to be worried?

read a little closer.
As part of the new organization, Javier Ortega will continue to play a pivotal role in the overall strategic direction of NHRA’s involvement in the sport compact drag racing scene encompassing all aspects of the business including marketing, promotions and racing. Ortega, whose knowledge of the sport compact industry is second to none, will serve as executive director providing senior-level counsel on NHRA’s short- and long-term objectives and serve as a key advisor on the day-to-day operations.
“Javier has been instrumental in guiding NHRA’s entry into the sport compact market and has helped us achieve significant growth and success,” said Tom Compton, president, NHRA. “Javier will continue to provide valuable insight and leadership to NHRA’s sport compact program.” Moving forward, Ortega will report directly to Compton.
everything looks ok to me. but well just see what happens.

I thought Javier was more into the import side of sport compact. Now the series will be controlled by a GM guy. Not the best sign for Honda guys

Not sure if you guys noticed but Don Taylor is also involved in the NHRA Sport Compact series. Don used to be involved in the GM FWD program when it first started but he hasn't been involved with that program for a couple of years now. It might be presumptuous to think that this move has been orchastrated by GM. I know that Josh has love for all the imports. I think that if people feel that the rules are being bent for a particular manufacturer someone should organize a petition and have everyone sign it and then submit it to the powers that be at NHRA.
I think that for many years accomodations have been made for Hondas in certain classes as well prior to GM's involvement. That being said I don't doubt that GM has used the NHRA series as a spring board or tool to reach a demographic that they had missed for many years, to say that there isn't some sort of relationship between GM and NHRA wouldn't be that much of a reach.
