Question: Clutch disc center hub swapping... ?
Hi to all! Yes I am new here! I've been a long time member of many other forums but as I see, I should've come here a while ago!
Ok here's the problem first:
I have a 1988 Honda CRX DX in which I swapped in a 1992 DOHC ZC OBD-1 last year. I had bought a 1989 CRX Si transmission, 20 splines on shaft of course and the clutch that came with the ZC was 20 splines too. I used the ZC's clutch as it was like new but I had looked at the differences between the 92 ZC clutch and the 89 CRX Si clutch. The 89 was smaller but I only read about that today that the 89 were 12mm smaller then the 90-91 so probably the only difference was there. Anyways, that tranny didn't last too long as just after testing the car for the first time I realised it had bearing noises and a few synchros grinded... It finally died by the autumn by exploding from the inside causing the case to crack and leak oil/debris everywhere in the middle of my little 800 people village...
I bought another Si tranny today, had to travel 200 km (120 miles) to go get it. It's a rebuilt one and looks like new! Wasn't that expensive either. Only problem is the guy who sold it to me said it was an 89 but it isn't %?%$?$&%$ , it's an 88 so I can't reuse my clutch as the shaft has 21 splines.
I'm on a very very tight budget at this moment because I'm moving away but my car has to be running shortly so I can still come to work.
My question now (thanks for reading this far!!!):
I have an old 88 clutch disk laying around in my garage, it's fairly used and wouldn't want to put it in only to have to change it a month later but:
Could I swap the hub, the middle where the shaft goes in from the 88 on the ZC clutch disc? I know it's all rivets holding that together but would it be possible to do?
I've also read that 1988 Accords had a 212mm 21 splines clutch disc is that absolutely right? If so I might just end up buying a disc but I'm so short on money these days... Argh!
Thank you for any answers or remarks you post!
