Default h22a1 lots of black smoke @ v-tec rev.. normal?

i told a friend to drive and stay behind me while i full throttle at high rev with vtec kicking it, he told me there where lots of black smoke coming out of the muffler pipe and it stink the sh*t out of him. I was wondering if it's normal because of vtec that eats alot of gas or it's just running too rich?

Ohh and 1 thing i'm confused, i just recently changed the t-belt and water pump 2 days ago. i remember the vtec kicks right @ 5,000, after the t-belt change it kicks @ 5,200. What did i do wrong here..? Did i misplaced the cam gears grooving or i didnt align it right when i put on t-belt? thanks

I believe our motors run a little on the rich side but the amount of smok eyou are talking about doesn't sound normal. I asked my friend to do the same thing and he said that he did not see ANY smoke coming from my exhaust when I was WOT.

My VTEC kicks in at 5200 on my rpm guage. Always has.

well my motor is stock, think there is some misadjustments that may cause it to run too rich?

That's an understatement

I would let someone else drive your car and you check it out for yourself. It could be a combo of running rich and the rings/valve stem seals leaking some oil, as many Preludes do.

Unless it seems excessive, some smoke can be normal.

ooh yea i forgot, i got some oil around the spark plug thread. can that be the oil burning that cause more smoke? I don't understand how oil gets in there... i thought it'll be the o-rings but as i can see inside the hole to the spark plug housing..there are no signs of oil around the hole aside.. is there another o-rings just below the spark plug housing..?

There is a gasket between the head and the valve cover, actually at the bottom of the valve cover, that keeps oil from getting down into the spark plug wells. I would say the oil got to the plug threads from that gasket leaking.

Pull off your valve cover, and at the bottom of the spark plug wells will be a rubber ring stuck at the bottom of each. That seals between the head and the valve cover.

Yes, you should be able to get those gaskets at any Honda dealership.
