i bought a 2000 civic and the ac did not work, i found that their was a hoel in one fo the lines, so i replaced it. do i need to get it evacuated...or can i just put some r134a in it and be done. please let me know

 

a/c just get rid of it. i took mine out and it was just replaced by the guy that had the car b4 me

 

ac is a must for me, this is a daily anyway and is complety stock.. its not worth it to gain 2 horsepower...at least for me. the ac is removed in my other car

you should evacuate and refill but you can get away with filling it back up

 

if there was a hole in one of the lines there's probably not going to be any refrigirant in the system. you can fill it but make sure you use the right gauge b/c you need the exact amount in there.

 

the system should be evacuated to removed any debris that an open system can get. however its up to you

 

How would one evacuate an ac system? I am also looking to recharge my ac system. There's one I can get with a hose and pressure gauge with 3 bottles for $39.99 locally.

 

Okay to evacuate a system it has to be run in a vacuum for about 30 minutes or so. 30kpa of vacuum. It should hold that vacuum for about 15 minutes or so if there is no leak in the system. I would also recomend replacing the receiver/drier found behind the inner fender cover on the drivers side.

 

so what is the downside to not having it evacuated?

 

if you dont evacuate , system could have misture and air pocket due to leak,,if you dont have tools to do job take it to shop have the job done right if you want your a/c to cool at its peak ,it is not that expensive you got r134a the cheap refrigerant to do an a/c service and add 1 lb freon it will probably cost $ 30-50,,, look for sales

 

so all that will happen is it may not cool to its peak?

It may not work at all. Depends on how much moisture is in the system.

 

i already have a recharge kit, is it going to hurt anything jsut to reharge it myself. i i doesnt work then id take it to honda,

 

i would evacuate it AND repalce the receiver/drier. moisture in the system and air pockets will cause it to either not work, or not cool and possibly do more damage later on.
evactuating isnt much workand you can even take it to a shop and ask them to evacutate it and it wont cost a lot. having them evacuate it and you refill it is a lot cheaper than paying someone else to do it again after yo dont do it right the first time.
