Need Info on Painting my Own Car
Hey everyone. I am toying with the idea of painting my car supersonic blue pearl. Right now the car really needs a paint job because the front bumper and hood are black plastic, the trunk is black and scratched up and there is a rust spot just above the rear bumper on the passenger side. Plus I want to shave the mouldings, take off the gay sideskirts the previous owner put on it , put on the stock ones and fill the tiny holes from the rivets on the side panels from the sieskirts. The car is a 94 Integra GSR 2dr. It is BG-33P green now. I have searched but alot of the supplies people listed like sealer I don't know what are. How much paint, primer, and clear coat do I need? What supplies like body filler, sealer?, air compressor, spray guns, rust removal chemicals, sheetmetal , grit sandpaper. Please help me out and no I will not pay a body shop 2k to do this plus I think It will be a fun project. Please include money estimates for the supplies I do need and good name brands. I was thinking of buying most of the supplies from paintscratch.com but If you know any better please tell me. Here are some steps I have found but further advice would be greatly appreciated.
1. sand the entire car with 220.
2. use body filler as needed, sand flush with body lines.
3. prime areas that have bare metal exposed or have body filler.
4. sand entire car with 300.
5. wash with a little soap and water.
6. blow the car off with an airhose to dry it.
7. use wax and grease remover then quickly wipe the wax and grease remover off with a clean wipe.
8. use tackcloth.
9. lay down your sealer, let it flash(10-15 minutes)
10. Spray 3 coats of base color with 10-15 minute flashing periods between each coat.
11. spray clearcoat.

so your just looking for price estimates?
if you get a ppg paint product, reducer, primer, activator and etch primer, etc.. you should be looking at about $600-700 or so.
craftsman 150 psi air compressor about 250
sata nr 2000 paint gun around $300-450
you said you wanted name brand stuff, so i thought of my personal favorites
the side skirts on the car have screws under them you have to take them out then pull the side skirt back toward the rear wheel well and it should pop off. any other quaetions?
