Is it considered much of an upgrade from a 98 GSR to an 05 RSX-S?
I was thinking S2K but I don't want to have finance my next car purchase so I am now thinking an RSX-S.
I have a 98 GSR with Comptech bolt ons and Recaros. I figure my net cost for the RSX-S will be around 15k depending how lucky I am with selling the GSR (60k miles)
Question: Is this a 12-15k "upgrade?"
Never drove an RSX-S and I don't want to test drive an get trapped at the dealership. TIA

you can get a used s2k for less than a new 05 rsx-s and it will be damn faster than you gsr or type s. some people like tuning their older rides. you won't have the money to do it if you buy the new car. 15k worth of modifications on your 98 gsr and you could kill any rsx type s for suure. what you might be looking at is some headaches. and all the money you "invested" into your car the resell value won't be high as if you got the rsx-s. it is a pretty ez decision once you know what you want. GL with it.

on an insurance stand point, check how much you can find an s2k for. Make sure it is affordable for you. Call your ins. company and ask how much it is to insure an s2k/rsx-s/any other car your interested in. There are faster years of the s2k as well, use the search function in the s2k forum if you want more info.

In terms of insurance, it will be slightly higher but not really a lot since I am quite older now and have been a good driver. (yep-I checked).
I understand that buying used can be economical but I will be replacing a car I had since its birth and it just don't feel right to replace it with a "non-virgin". Thanks for the input.

As far as having a cleaner interior, it is an upgrade. Other than that, it won't be an upgrade. A heavier car with probably less power than your bolt-on GSR doesn't seem like an upgrade, but I guess if you like the looks of an RSX compared with an Integra, then go for it.
People will tell you that Integras get jacked like crazy, which is true, but trust me, the same thing will happen to RSXes pretty soon.

Yeah I agree with the insurance thing, I think you should check the pricing of that first. But if you go and get the RSX-S the aftermarket parts are relatively a bit more expensive than the parts for a GSR. I have a GSR right now and I plan on putting about another 4-6k into it and I'm sure I'll have a 12 sec car or even 11. I already have the turbo kit, I just need the built engine and some more traction and I'm about good. but yeah it all comes down to what it is that you are aiming for. All the best to you.

I say it's a decent upgrade over a GSR.
-Nicer Interior (better seats, more luxurious feel)
-6 speed
-k20 is extremely responisve to any mods (just i/h/e and hondata produce some amazing results)
-Looks is debateable but I like the RSX look more than the DC2

05 is a decent upgrade
02-04 not worth it IMO
The made a few nice little upgrades to the 05 like:
nicer bumpers/tail lights
better suspension
shorter gears
10 hp and a few more pounds of tq
Looks more like an updated teg IMO and performance is little more impressive

I've had some seat time in the GSR, RSX-S & S2K). My personal feeling is that the RSX-S does not have the same connected "feel" that the teg does. I agree that on paper, S is a hell of a lot better, but trust me on this one ... go drive one and see for yourself. It feels tall & heavy (which it is). The gearbox feels clunky and disconnected (it's a cable shifter). It is a nice highway car though - very quiet. Next, go drive an S2K ... 9000 rpm, low, connected, rwd, direct 6-speed gearbox ... raw sportscar. Your decision should be pretty easy. There is no comparison.
i would look for an 02-03 s2k. i don't think an 05 type-s is a good upgrade. go test drive an s2k, and if you like it, which you probably will, go for it.
