Motor mount problem on b16
Ok, I did a little bit of searching, but cant be conclusive. I havnt been able to look at my car very well since its dark but I think I broke a motor mount. When I'm shifting I can feel the shifter move back and forth in gear when I accelerate and deccelerate. I get out of the car and when I throttle it, the engine moves a little out of place. I looked at my transmission/engine mount, everything looks in tact as well as the mount next to the timing cover. I could barely see the back motor mount and its there but cant tell if its broken. I guess the real question is if the motor mounts are all still in tact, what else could possibly be doing this? Its also a B16 swapped in a CRX so no front mount. I also need to know ASAP because I'm supposed to autocross on Sunday. I am gonna check it out at work tomorrow since I have access to a lift.
well, if ur shifters moving back and forth when you accelerate and decelerate, then I think it would have to be your motor mounts. What kinda are they? Hasport? Maybe check the urethane/rubber/whatever insert you have and make sure that its all still intact. Tighten up the bolts, that kinda thing. On my old a6, my tranny mount completely rusted through, so I drove my car for a few months with the motor hanging at a slight angle... Plus, when ever i pushed in the clutch, it shifted the motor enough for the tranny to hit on the front cross member, and made the car shake horribly, and make lots of noise. Great for driving chicks around in
anyway, man check out your mounts, thats what I have my money on

Did you check the shift linkage maybe its isn't tightened all the way. If they are, try to torque down those motor mounts. If that doesn't work then yeah its probably your motor mounts. Good luck!

This is wierd, I found out what it was and fixed it but have never seen it before. Ok, my back motor mount that goes on the bottom of the engine and transmission was missing the bottom bolt. It was just missing and causing it to pivot the mount and wasnt a broken bolt. Well it was an easy fix, just put a new one in and now I get to autocross tomorrow.
Yeah, i'm willing to bet your rear tranny mount bolt broke or threaded itself off. Happened to me once.
- #1 stop driving it until you fix it, you'll destroy the poly bushings in the other mounts by that motion.
- #2 jack the car up, get some light, and fix the problem
If they're Hasport or AZ race mounts you didn't break the mount, you broke a bolt or the weld on your chassis. Those billet aluminum mounts don't break. They pretty much can't. Check the bushings too of course. Could tear one of those.
edit: and if it were your tranny mount or drivers side mount, your engine would probably be on the ground by now LOL so i'm fairly positive in my guess. let me know i'm right will ya? LOL
