George Lucas: autocrosser.
The first movie I ever remember seeing in a theater... EVER ... was Star Wars. That was back when I'd just turned five. As, you can imagine, it had a profound effect on my childhood, and I believe that George Lucas's contributions subsequently played a big role in my ideas of "what I want to do when I grow up".
Some of you may have noticed that all Lucas movies have some sort of high-speed chase in them. You might also know that he is a motorsports enthusiast.
In this recent Wired article, it is casually implied that he was autocrossing in the early 60s. See page two:

I think that's neato. Thought I'd share.

Interior sounds from Trans Am and exterior sounds from Champ Cars made up some of the podrace sounds in Ep1.
Lucas was also an avid street racer, a lifestyle he portrayed in "American Graffiti."

If you did, you would know that he said he missed his class prom because he was already doing film/video stuff, but later regretted it because it is a rite of passage. That's what he said on the show, anyway.
As noted in the Chicago Tribune...
"It wasn't that hard to get "Star Wars" creator George Lucas to guest on "The O.C.," according to show creator Josh Schwartz.
Then again, Lucas' teenage daughter, Katie, worked behind the scenes to make the cameo happen.
"I don't think he's ever seen the show all the way through. He knows about it through his daughter," Schwartz said of Lucas, who, on the next episode of the Thursday night Fox soap, has a meeting with Seth Cohen regarding Cohen's graphic novel.
Schwartz gave Katie Lucas a tour of "The O.C." set, and while they were wandering around the fictional Newport Beach, she asked Schwartz, "Is it weird to have created something that so many people watch?" Schwartz recalled. His answer? "Your dad created `Star Wars' and you're asking me that?"
Schwartz got the idea to invite Lucas on the show after the trailer for the final "Star Wars" flick, "Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith," premiered on "The O.C." several weeks ago. And the TV tyro doesn't regret bringing Lucas to Newport Beach.
"He just came down with his daughter, he had no entourage," Schwartz said. "Everyone gathered on the set to meet him, Peter Gallagher hung out after he was done just to say hello. [Lucas] was really gracious and unbelievably down to earth -- and good in the scene."
All things considered, Schwartz says, Lucas was the ideal "O.C." guest: "He didn't end up in fisticuffs, he didn't end up in the pool, he didn't break up Sandy and Kirsten."
But Lucas did have to have some creative input. There's a Jar Jar Binks reference in Lucas' scene, and Schwartz says, "that was his line."

That question shares the same answer as "Has Michael Schumacher ever won the Indy 500?"
Anyways, check out David Coulthard's ride during the Monaco race...

No.
My favorite website for looking up movie trivia (and movie facts that are not so trivial) is the Internet Movie Database.

I'm in Star Wars mentality right now so my post was trying to be cryptic like Yoda and Ben "from a certain point of view" Kenobi.

I'm all about being in Star Wars mode right now too. I've got my passes for wednesday, for the only digital theater in town. My wife is planning on getting in line around noon (shows at midnight). I hope it's not too bad over there...
I personaly comend Lucas for sticking with his vision. Esspecially when Hollywood really tried to lay the hammer down on him. It's just proof positive that you dreams do come true...
Fireant, I think it's obvious your a starwars fan considering you have Biggs Darklighter as your Avatar (oops I just gave away the fact that I'm a big SW nerd
)...

I take it you'll be gaining a few pounds this month too?

Anyways, since this is RR/AX with a Star Wars twist, you all need to watch the Monaco GP!

Or pick up the remastered THX-1138 on DVD and checkout the car chase. Try to figure out what those vehicles actually are underneath the props.
Yep I was 5. It was great. The Lone Ranger was quickly forgotten after that.

You guys are nerds. Then again, I didn't grow up with them, and only saw the first 3 in 1997 when they came out on VHS, and all my nerd friends made me watch them in one night. Haven't seen them since.

Nope I hate it too. The only one I ever saw in its entirety was the original, back in seventh grade, and I fall asleep whenever someone puts on one of the other 5 versions.
