griding, uhh adjust clutch? help please...
so im driving home from the dragstrip and i come to find out that when i have my car at WOT and go to hit 3rd, it grinds a good amount. next, as i see it as a bad thing i go to downshift into 2nd and it grinds a lot to. and to top it all off, as i was staging at the burnout lines, my car wouldnt go into 1st, as i would let my foot off the clucth, it would grind. i had to shift into 2nd and back into 1st to even try and slam it into gear. my dad said something about adjusting the clutch, and me being new to driving standard tranny's, i dont know what the hell that means or how to go about doing that. its a 89 civic si hatch with 200 grand on the motor. help please id really appreciate it, thank you...
where is a pic ***** when you need them?
but if you open the hood you will see a long cable that goes across the motor to the tranny, then there will be a black plastic nut that goes around the cable. pull up on the relese lever arm on the tranny and then tighten the nut... that will take all of the slack out of your clutch.

when you pull up on it , it wont move but it lets just enough slack out of the cable to make tightening it easier. you can just tighten the nut but i thought it easier to pull on the release lever also.

if i tighten the nut and it still doesnt go away, the grinding i mean, would i need a new clutch or tranny?

yea i know if i was blind i could do it i just dont wanna mess up bc i have never done something like this. but thanks for the input. if this doesnt work, are there any other things i could do to try and fix my problem or would i juss have to go and buy a new clutch or tranny? help please thanks.....
look at the first pic that mawkiemarc posted. i think he was trying to tighten the bolt to the right of were the cable goes into the arm. lol thats could be why it didn't help
what are you trying to acheive? if you turn the nut UP the threaded shaft the clutch will engauge sooner, or closer to the floor. i think you might want to go the other way. that will let the clutch fully disengauge, therefore no more grinding.......hopefully
oh thanks man, good lookin i see what ya mean how i get it a lil faster.
ok well this is what i have done, i turned that **** to the right (clockwise) and it got rid of the 1st gear problem where i put have to shift into 2nd first but now thats gone. but still grinds when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. could that just mean i need a new clutch of is my tranny bad....?
