alignment for auto x
ok just got my car aligned cuz my toe on the front was so mbad i trashed my falken azenis tires in like a few weeks
. my question is, what is the best setting for the toe on a car for handleing?? i notice that since i got it aligned with a Slight positive toe to help the tire wear cuz the car is lowered, the handeling is not as good as it was with the extreme negative toe it seems. just curioous if anyone knows any good set ups. thanks

Set it to 0; that's what I'm running. It's going to be a long time before the nut behind the wheel is good enough to start messing with the toe settings to get any real benifit.
For minimum tire wear you want 0 toe. Positive or negative toe combined with negative camber will result in increased wear.
For best autox handling (which is different than other motorsports) front toe out is recommended to get good turn in. Also rear toe out can make the rear end more lively but really exaggerates high speed instability under braking and lift throttle snap oversteer.
Probably a good setting for a street driven autoxer would be 1/8" total toe out in the front and 0 toe in the rear.
ymmv

alan

i c, thanks for the help, the rear of my car is already more than lively, especially for a crx. i have neuspeed tie and strut bars and suspension techniques sway bars and it is a pretty tight set up, another question i have is that since i have kyb agx struts and they are all 4 set to level three, would it be bennificial to set the front a level higher or the rear? thanks again
can you post your alignment printout? id like to know how much toe you had before and after.
toe up front can be from 0 to 1/16" toe out total. the rear likes to see zero, or slightly toe in to taste. thats a typical autox setup.
adjust your shocks to your own taste, whatever you like. why should anyone else tell you... the cost is free to adjust.

Kind of a comprimize. I wouldn't get a tru autox aligment on a street car. toe out the front and rear to initiate the turns faster but dam it wouldn't want to drive straight down the highway. So I just keep it at 0. For camber I keep the front at -.5. With unequal length A-arms you don't need crazy camber settings. For the rear I have -1.7.
I'll say it till I am blue in the face. Get a tire temperature gauge. Without it you are just guessing and probably guessing wrong.

are you sure you're talking about toe? like, when viewed from ABOVE (like yer feet) the wheels point in or out. like they are steering different ways.
if it handled better w/ "extreme negative" settings it sounds like youre talkinga bout camber(wheels tilting in or out when viewed from the rear or front). extreme anything toe (like, an inch) wont make your car handle well, in most situations. and toe is usually discussed as being in or out, not negative and positive.

i think that was to the original poster. no need to be unproductive, let's just get him and his wheels pointed in the right direction.
if that was to me, well, then we got somethin funny going on.

well, toe is very commonly measured as positive and negative, as well as every other allignment angle....your sentence(s) was too jumbled and I could see people getting confused by it
