Default pwn3d by Autozone alternator

Bah... I was driving today and saw the lights dim and clock fade. Got to a Grocery store lot to take a look. Luckily I had my multimeter with me. With a lil help comparing stuff to my friend Rory's CRX we found the problem. It was actually apparent once we found it. The voltage regulator must be jacked up. It was sending 20V idle with decreasing V with increasing RPMS.... . Gonna exchange it tomorrow so i can get home from school. Then return it outright and buy a Honda unit.

ive had numerous problems with autozone alts.

i had my voltage regulator fail and give me 16V as well. my battery boiled and spilled battery acid all over my engine.

threw some baking soda over it and it totally cleaned my transmission

I had an autozone alternator on my Eclipse since 2001 and never had a problem. In fact its still on there now that my friend has my car. Just hit and miss I guess. If the part isn't a pain in the *** to change and lasts at least 6 months I don't mind getting a new one for free. But I guess they are a little harder to change in EF's

They are a piece of cake in EF's 30 minutes start to finish. But when AZ is closed and you need to drive 150miles home for summer break... yea it ain't so cool.

I hated changing mine in my crx. Anything against the Firwall is my enemy.

firewall?

-top bolt
-lower bolt
-toss alt back away from bracket (but still trapped in car)
-take out driverside bracket bolt
-loosen other braket bolt
-swing braket down
-turn alt pulley down @ ground
-drop out easily

Then reverse. No where near the firewall really.

Maybe it's my gordo hands and the b16 that make things tight. But it was a pain in the *** to me.

After similar experiences with rebuilds, I put in a used EG alt. The pulley has 1 more rib on it, but hasn't caused a problem...and it didn't fry itself in 6 months. Plugs right in.

After going through 3 advance alternators in a week before finding a good one out of the batch, i think i'll suck it up and pay more for the oem.
