Fuggin AEBS Intake Manifold!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Being the procrastinator I am, 2 weeks b4 Expo I decide to install my AEBS intake mani that I've had laying around for over a year with an AN-R gasket. Now I have a lumpy sound coming from my intake like I have a cam and the idle goes down to around 500 then slowly back up. The car sounds kind of like a space ship at idle or lower RPM and VTEC engages late, engages on time then cuts out, then doesn't want to engage at all very randomly. Setup is a stock 98 ITR with AEM/Gruppe M intake, Fujitsubo header, T1R test pipe and stock ecu.

i just installed my aebs on my b16 with a hondata gasket and for one, i had to grind the manifold down where it sits above the alternator bracket, also where it meets the rear stabalizer. it wasn't going down all the way causing there to be a gap at the bottom. try spraying some carb cleaner around the manifold gasket and the TB gasket. if it revs, you have a leak. how did you install your injectors? did you make sure to cap off all the unused vacuum ports on the back? is your throttle cable adjusted right? was the gasket between the IACV and the manifold replaced if it was old?
I put the injectors in correctly with the spacers, capped off the unused ports on the back, didn't really adjust the cable, the gasket for the IACV was still good.
I just checked the oil and it was a bit low which could explain VTEC cutting out and engaging late. It drives really strong between 2-4,000 RPM which could also be becasue I gutted my rear yesterday. I'm still baffled about the idle and sound it's making though.

It is probably the throttle body gasket. But if you are using an aftermarket throttle body it is machined so presice so you do not need a gasket.
it will rev as high as you wanna push it, and it is the plugs, i am 90% sure of it, all you have to do is just switch the plug real quick to check it, i think it is gonna fix your problem.
i dont know about the other problems you have...but when my vtec was kicking in late and/or not kicking in at all(very random), i didnt have any oil in my motor...hahahaha...i know it's stupid, but at least i found out why...i dont know if that's your problem, but it's good to check it out.
Yupp, 1.5 quarts low
The idle thing went away, but it still makes strange space ship sounding noises. Ohh well, at least VTEC works again.
Thanks for the help guys
