Default 96 DX Check Engine Light

I'm thinking about buying my friend's '96 Dx Hatchback, the only thing is, the check engine light flashes, i don't remember the code number (91 or 96 i believe), saying that the HI/Lo Fuel Pressure sensor needs to be changed. The engine has been changed from the orginal to a '00 EX model, but a mechanic told me that after an engine swap takes place, that the check engine light can malfunction and the only real way to determine what's wrong is to get a check up on the car. What I'm wondering is will the engine swap affect the light or not. Any help is greatly appreciated.
