built h22
well im very interested in building my engine. i have an h22a4 in a 5th lude and i just wanted to know all of the stuff i need such as rods, pistons, and all of that stuff because im new and i have no idea. so if anyone could just give a list of the stuff i need that would be great. and then also, if anyone knows a tuner around the san diego area that you would recomend that would be great also, thanks.
holy crap that was pretty vague. N/A Built ? Turbo ? SuperCharged ?
There are tons of parts out there. You need to do a bit more research before going headfirst into any Engine modifications. Start with the basics, Intake, Header, Exhaust. If you are going Turbo dont bother with the header or exhaust.

i already have headers and a cold air intake, i just want to go all motor and get as much hp and tq as i can. thats why i need your help because i dont know what will make it go faster?
How much money do you got saved up is what it all comes down to. How much are you looking to spend on your n/a build and what HP goal are you trying to reach and for what purpose.
ok well i have at least 8 grand and i wanna get at least 275 hp if that is possible. basically my goal is to go fast. but im sure 8 grand is enough money right? and if so do you think you could give me a list of the things i need to buy?
NO offense man, but you may want to check out the FAQ. If I were you start with bolt-ons, you just need your exhaust seeing how you have I/H, then go onto more things, maybe a pnp, and a nice new pair of cams, new valvetrain. depends how far you want to go and how much $$$ you can spend.

well im gonna get my exhaust in a week or so but i just want to get at least 275 hp on an all motor setup if this even possible. i just wanted to know what stuff i need to buy?
if you have 8 grand to spend id say go turbo... build your bottom end with some nice sleeves, pistons, and rods... then put a nice custom turbo kit together... to stay all motor its gonna cost you a hell of a lot more and ull see no where near 275hp... A bulit h22 turbo is capable of over 400+whp
I'm not going to explain it since i'm no guru on it, but i will see if i can find some info and copy and paste it for you, 275hp is a lot to do NA on a h22, although i'm planning around the same so let's hope it's not impossible.

alright cool thanks. if you get a built head, will you need to use a higher octane gas than 91 or can you run 91 octane alright? and if you build your bottom end and go turbo, can you run your car daily at over 10 psi?

okay here ya go.....
"people don't say port and polish any more because polishing to a mirror shine some cases reduced hp!
Porting a cylinder head means that yo grind off metal from the cylinder head's intake ports at specific places to increase air flow.
some times they do it to enlarge an opening....
the headporter also changes the angles on the valves and valve seats and resurfaces the bowl area of the combustion chamber to improve the way the air and fuel fills or enters the cylinder.
also the exhaust port is done to increase exhaust flow.. obvious huh?
So head porting increases power by making the engine breathe a little better. more air means more comubstion which in turn yields power! They improve engine breathing by increasing the amount of air travelling into and amount of exhaust leaving the cylinder. The power is also gained by not only increasing the amount of air going in but also by increasing the speed at which the air flows into the cylinder. The speed at which exhaust gases leave is also increased so you get better removal of burnt gases and more scavenging."

in regards to the turbo idea, i hear nothing but horror stories about turbos on h22's so make sure everything is done right if you go turbo. although i'm considering turbocharging my lude since i just saw a video of a 5gen lude at 10psi walking a STi with 20psi and I/E.

yeah thats why i dont really wanna go turbo. i wanna go all motor its just i dont know all of the things i need to make my car faster. if i get my bottom end resleeved, pistons and rods will that make my car faster or will it just be better in the even that i do go turbo? and then also about the 91 octane.

i want something like that so when he says good head work what does he mean?

I believe you should be able to run 91 octane. Nothing less even with just a stock vtec engine your car stands a chance of detonating if run with anything. Double check with other people though, don't take my word for it, if you wanna know more i'll do my best, just IM me at phisherman165.

the factory doesnt even tell you to run 91. why would you want to run 91 on abuilt motor?

Well premium is 91 octane, and out of my 1999 prelude/accord owner's manual
"Gasoline:
Premium unleaded gasoline, pump octane number of 91 or higher."

exactly. and if i needed more octane would you have to mix in some special gas with like 1 million octane or something like that?

and does anyone know any shops or tuners in the san diego area worth recommending?
and if you resleeve your bottom end and get new pistons and rods, rings, etc. does this make gain hp or does it just set you up for a turbo?

No offense, but I don't think that you need be asking these questions as of right now... You need to read and learn as much as you can before you start modifying your vehicle... You should understand how all the parts of the motor work before you start changing them...
