Default 1990 Civic H/B

Just got a 1990 Civic Hatchback DX. I'll be buying my own engine swap and having my mechanic put it in for me. I'm planning on using one of the B16 series engines. Some questions that he had were:

Do I need to change the computer in the car?
Do I need to change the electrical wire harness?
Do I need to change the throttle body?
Do I need to change the multi-port?
What extra parts will I need besides the full swap?

He suggested I go online and research before I ordered my engine. Anyone know which engine is the best to swap in?

1. Yes you need to use the computer for the engine. If the engine is OBD0 use a PR3 or PW0. If it is OBD1 use a chipped P28, P72 or a P30.

2. You need to switch to mpfi and add wires for VTEC, knock sensor, and 2nd O2 if applicable

3. No you use the tb from the engine you buy

4. Yes

5. You will need a mount kit, shift linkage, and whatever maintenance items you want to replace.

I would perosnally go with a b18c1 (gsr) engine. However, it all depends on what your budget and overall goals are.

Well, I'm not looking to spend more than $3000-3500 and my mechanic says install will be $800 or so. I can pick up a b16 for $1700 including shipping, so I would think that would be the engine to buy.

No offense but if your mechanic is asking those types of questions, I think you need to find someone who knows how to do a swap.

He's a master mechanic, he just doesn't do Honda swaps all the time. The other guy I was talking to that does swaps a lot was telling me I'd be looking at $5500 for a b16 swap. Since I can pick up a full swap for $1700 on ebay, I'm not sure that $5500 is a fair price. Any input?

Dx and Si hubs are the same so no need to change them.

5000 is too much for a b16a swap.

I did mine for around $3000 in my garage.

1200 shipped for an OBD0 b16a swap
450 for mounts and linkage
350 for upgraded axles
350 for a clutch
200 for maintenance items (water pump, timing belt, etc)
150 for a new radiator....not needed but I needed one
100 for general crap

So that's about $2800. I probably could have done it for less if i shopped around but I was a noob to swaps 3 years ago.

Where should I purchase all the stuff I'm going to need? I was looking at ebay for the b16 full swap, what about the rest of the parts?

Anyone have any input?
