Sadly... the law states for the majority of states... shop owners can decline any service for any reason. What he said was uncalled for... thus I'd recommend the BBB. As for legal actions... My Magic 8 ball says... "No".

Sure, he can decline service.... but does the law say that they can insult anyone that they feel like insulting?

All he had to say was, "$60 is the lowest. Can't go lower."

You hear what I'm saying? Like I said, every race is racist to a certain extent, but this one went over board.

I called the shop and told Him I was your Lawyer, and that Vebal abuse is a Crimanal Offence(pulled it out of my ***, said it was derogatory slander), and that if he ever treats another Customer Like that we will file a complaint with the better buisness burrow. I also told him that if he wants to destroy his name on the internet keep treating customers that way.

I also gave him a number of a anger management theropist I pulled out of a atlanta phonebook

sorry, I just get pissed when people treat others that way, no need for it. sorry to get involved

It seems like you could report the shop owner for not selling to you based on your race. He could probably get in trouble for that. I don't know though. That sucks man.

Sean,

Saw your other post in VTECAtlanta; I guess you could file a complaint form with the Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs, but I doubt anyone would give a damn.

Besides, you were expecting some enlightened Zen-master?

We all look alike to those rednecks anyhow

Well, sorry you were abused verbally. I hate that
A simple "sorry, son, i can't go any lower" would have been fine.

That place just lost a customer, and many more possibly.

Well, I hope you get your Mazda wheelz somewhere else.
-Aoib0t, who knows the customer is very important.

What an A Hole that guy is
I don't think I could be that nice and hold back my temper, Its one thing to flip out because of a customer asking for a lower price (Still no reason to flip like that) Its a totally different scenario when someone attacks Me personally by My race or heritage.

I would report them to the BBS and any Groups that would take interest.

that must have been the BEST feeling in your stomach!!! you ask for a lower price (because you never know when they can go lower) and he goes off on you like that?! keep your cool and just put it behind you. if you ever run into him again outside of his store like at a track event or something, just smile and look the other way! don't need people like that in this world! but they're here for a reason:...so we have something to talk about on the web!

What you're doing right now is the correct thing to do..And probably the only way to get back at him..Just spread the bad word around a little and you'll hurt him where it counts...in his wallet...Be careful though, don't make it obvious that you're bad-mouthing them..You never know who's who....

sux0rz what happend

I had a similar incident after some whitish looking guy driving a dually side swiped my EF. The f00 tried to run but I chased him down. As soon as we stopped he comes running out of his truck and got into my face and yells out racial remarks. I kept laughing at his face, but he didn't take that t00 well He started to push on one of my shoulders, so I was about to give him a piece of my mind but the cops came - kinda helps that they're always hanging out at the 7-11 a block away. Anyways, I tell the cop what happened. Guess the d00d the truck thought I'd be the silent asian type b/c he when the cop went back to him and gave him a long 455 lecture. Then the cop told him to show his proof of insurance and ID to me. Well, the d00d didn't have it so he got another lecture - LOL!!!!!!!!!

yshi - who never laughed so hard at 2am

Thanks for the support guys. I'm trying to keep it cool. I really do feel sorry for his *** 'cuz he just got some really poo pooy advertisement all over the net (RX-7, Miata, etc. forums.)

I don't think BBB can do anything, 'cuz they are not a member of BBB. However, I'll see what I can dig up with Consumer's Affair here in ATL, GA.

Close-minded shop owner =

p.s. Jeff - sorry, couldn't get you the lug-nuts... I'll still stop by with the lug-locks though.

Last time I checked the law, it's not illegal to be a racist. Plus, what are you hoping to get out of settling this judiciously? At best, you get to have that spare Millennia wheel for a few $$ cheaper. Unfortunately, it's a part of life, learn to live with it.

GREAT IDEA! Especially since it's an 800 number, he'd be paying for EVERY call!

Go there at night and spray paint the words "CHILD MOLESTER" on his business.

Then call the Church of Latter Day Saints and ask for free promotional material and forward the above address.

Order pizza (from a pay phone) from every pizza joint in the city to that address (say you will pay cash) - he will undoubtedly give the pizza delivery guys a good time.

Phone the NAACP and say that there is a racist working there and that they should picket his business.

Phone the Klu Klux Klan and say that you want to be a member and that some colored people on your front lawn are bothering you and that you want some help right away (try and arrange for it to occur on the same day the NAACP is going to be there).

Phone any escort service and request very young girls to be sent to the above address (on the same day the pizza, the Klan and the NAACP arrive)

Then phone the cops and say that an old man tried to proposistion your younger sister.

Then run away.................

fangtl - I agree. Like I said, every race is racist to a certain extent. But, there is a way you treat your customers. Should we always expect to walk into a shop and be insulted? No, we expect some decency out of people... as people. Sure, I know I could get a spare Millenia for cheaper, but I was just trying to give my local shop a sale... but he messed up. I'll live with it... but that doesn't mean that what he did was pleasant in my stomach.

Unfortunately you can't sue for slander. Slander is when you suffer defamation of character which ruins your reputation. Since you were the only one there, it didn't affect your reputation. But you can tell people not to shop there if you like.

The saddest part is, if you slander his business, like your doing here, and you can't prove he said those things, he could legally sue you. Not like that would ever happen, but he could because he is able to prove that you did libel on his business because its in a public forum. I just finished Legal Enviroment of Business and got an A, so thats why i know these useless facts.

However the guy sounds like a jackass, and i would never shop there for parts. That sucks man.

In certain areas of law, it is illegal to be a racist. More specifically, it's illegal to discriminate in housing and in hiring (and other aspects of employment). However AFAIK it's legal to discriminate as a vendor. Stupid, but legal. However, IANAL (and I don't play one on television).

Unfortunately, it's not illegal to be an @$$hole.
