Default HELP! GSR Exhuast Piping Length VS. Type R

I have a GSR, and I want to install a TYPE R cat back system. I know the length is off, so I was wondering if anyone know the ball park of how many inches i need to extend the end of the stock gsr cat (i will also change the end from a 2.25 to a 2.5 so it will bolt up to the exhaust b pipe) for comestic purpose only i will keep the stock gsr header and cat, i dont want to run test pipe cuz it will be way too loud for so cali!
Thx for the help!

IIRC, you'll need to add about 4.5" to the ITR catback system.

The length is approximate. Make sure you measure before extending the b-pipe.

what year gsr do you have? if you have an 00 or 01 you won't need to modify anything...

timmy8151 is correct, the exact length that needs to be added to fit an USDM ITR exhaust on a '94-'99 GS-R is 4.5". I did this a few years ago for installation on my '94 GS-R (see picture below). I had the 1.75" 3-bolt cat flange cut off and had a 2.5" 3-bolt cat flange welded on. I did this so that I could later bolt up (which I just did 2 weeks ago) a JDM ITR 4-1 header (which has a 2.5" collector) and a 2.5" (inlet and outlet) hi-flow cat.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Excuse this idiot question, but what's special about 94 being a "beast motor year"? What about that year engine made it a beast motor?

it's debatable i think. i run the same quarter mile times as most obd1 gsr's.

Thats bullshit. Even if it were true those motors have so many miles on them by now they'd be worn and mild mannered by comparison.

yep! im talking about stock to stock miles to miles comparision man...everyone nows obd1 motors are faster then their obd2 motors unless the obd2 motors have upgraded oem parts...its just logically, less restrictions, more power

I always knew this, but I thought it was really only restricted in the ecu? Correct me if I am wrong, but besides this what other restrictions do the obd2 motors suffer?

From my understanding as well, obd1 motors respond better to aftermarket parts then obd2 motors, but then again I thoght that was all computer oriented and once changed or chipped, corrected the problem.

what exactly is your point of reasoning for putting a type r exhaust on a gsr?

the itr exhaust is not crush bent so it keeps its 2.25 inch diameter at the bends. Also the gsr exhaust is smaller in diameter. I believe acura quoted the itr exhaust at flow 30% better than the lower model integras whcih share the same exhaust.

The only drawback is it has a bottleneck where it connects to the cat and the muffler is chambered.

IIRC, the 30% flow increase is with the whole exhaust system; header, cat, catback

I have one on my 00 GS-R, and it's like 2 inches short of the rear bumper. And the hole of the bumper is black on top of the tip cause it's way back.

I have one on my 00 gsr and it is the exact same size as my stock unit. No black stuff on the bumper.

30% for the entire system? Maybe, but I thought it was just the b pipe and muffler

increase flow in essence will give you gains in high end, but then you have to give up some low ends...correct?
