Default clanking noise coming from my suspension

it sounds like the spring or something is loose. when the car is jacked up and the wheels are off the ground, there is freeplay on the coilover and the spring on the passanger side. a lot of it too. i can move it up/down an inch or 2. on the driver side, the movement is limited. the springs/coilovers only move about .5 of an inch or less. would that freeplay make clanking sounds when i drive? it only happens when i ride on bumpy roads or something that requires my shocks/springs to do something. if so, what would be the problem with it. am i missing a bushing or something?

what car you drive ? how low is your car ?
could be you're bottoming out your shock...
could be that your upper control arm is hitting on the top of the fender....
could be a lower susoension component rubbing against something...
