Default 85-87 HF brake drums finned and aluminum

just sharing what the 85-87 HF drums look like. direct replacement for 88-91 drums. obviously distinguished by the fins, better heat dissapation (which i dont see why it needs) but incredibly lighter because theyre made of aluminum, not steel. the brake lining is still steel however.

btw, the drums on the insight are nearly the same as these.

im actually doing this set up on my crx.. i have a set 92 eg rear drums.. i had to remove the spot welded inner ring on the backing plate in order to make it work.. i'll try and post pics up later... as far as weight goes.. its 7 lbs for the steel drums and 3 lbs for the aluminium drum.. if you do the math.. thats a total of 8 lbs less rotating mass...

I remember it being hard to find these. Like... 2 years ago. Polished AL would look cool

yeah, ive seen em polished to bare aluminum. it does look nice. but i gotta get take them off and get them turned. been driving these past two days and theyre rubbing badly. i think ill just strip and paint them black again.

honestly, this is pretty much a cosmetic add on. the less weight really is not affecting my ride. its just a lot nice to see through my wheels than normal drums.

we discussed how to find them in this thread.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1103152

basically, napa shows them in the online catalog, unsure if they can have them. but you can also buy them from the dealer now as they are made for the insight as well. but keep in mind, they are much more expensive than normal drums. i got these from the junkyard...

So they are also on the insight? They bolt up just like the HF drums would?

doesnt aluminum heat up faster than steel? maybe thats the reasoning for the fins?
