Default head pulled, what to replace

getting the head pulled to install cams, springs, retainers, headgasket. Besides that headgasket, any other maintence items I should replace. The motor is a jdm gsr. Around 40k. I was thinking this, but is this overkill?http://www.inlinefour.com/topgaskit.html

i don't think the topend kit would be overkill. i would say do it all at once since you have the head off already.... thats less things you have to worry about replacing later on.

I agree with JohnZM...

With 40k miles, I doubt your guides are worn, but it is really easy to tell: once the springs are off of the valve, push the valve out from the seat ~10mm (about 3/8") and see if there is more than .010" of side-to-side variance. Is so, replace, if not leave 'em be.

While you are in that far, I would suggest changing the valve seals, as they are one of the things that takes a crap first (especially with high-lift, high rpm use). They are dirt cheap at the dealer, and not that hard to replace....

Adrian

EDIT: looks like some folks already posted before I got my reply out... sorry for the repeat view

I'm guessing this is a 2nd hand head. Make sure you have it checked out. I recently bought a head, and luckily UPS damaged it during shipping, so I had a machine shop check it out. 3 bent valves. Better to know now then have slapped it on my new block that I just spent thousands building...

I'm having ITR yellow springs put in all around with portflow inners along with some new valve seals and of course, replacing the bent valves... This setup should allow me to run cams up to about 12mm lift. I don't know what you plan on doing, but this setup is perfect for the cams I will be running.

its the original head, the head is being pulled cuz i'm having cams, retainers, and springs installed. The shop that is doing it recommended that the head be inspected while its off.
