Thinking of using the 2004 Odyssey to tow to Toledo, OH.
What do I need? Right now it doesn't have a hitch or anything.
I'll be renting this:

And my 1991 Civic Si is around 2100lbs. So total weight is going to be close to 4000lbs. I know the Odyssey is rated around 3500lbs.

I think you need a bigger tow vehicle.
I remember towing my blownd up shadow back from somewhere outside of Columbus (so the same mountains) with a V6 F150 auto... lets just say that was interesting going up and down the hills. Fear of blowing the motor/trans up on the way up, fear of not stopping on the downhills.

I wouldn't tow over the rated weight of the tow vehicle. I personally tow very close to the rated rate of my vehicle and that is a handful at times.

Or lighter trailer. I have rented the U-haul trailer in the last year or so. They are quite heavy.
Also consider using a tow dolly.
Keith, who has towed quite a few things, with various tow vehicles...

for tow dolly. they make it easy to tow a car; i've used my buddies old tow dolly many times.... this is what you want to use if you are towing with a marginal vehicle. be sure to get a tow dolly that has surge brakes on it, too.

U-haul will not rent you a car trailer, either flat or a dolly, if you are using anything less than a 1/2 ton pickup truck to tow it.
Find someone with a real truck to tow it.
