is it possible to convert sohc to dohc
I have a 96 civic ex 4dr.
I was wondering if its possible to convert my sohc engine to a dohc? If so what all would be involved, like would the cost be worth the gains? i know about turbos and such, but I dont have the money or want to upgrade to that yet, I'm looking for making my car which is an every day driver perform a little bit better. I dont have the money for an engine swap, and I actually want to start building up my current engine, get the most that I can and do it all myself.
Also, I bought the car used and i noticed the fuel rail has an IPT sticker on it. Is that something stock from Honda or would it be somethign the previous owner would have replaced
thanks for your time

Yup.
As for your fuel rail, unless it is some different color than silver, then I think they previous owner just put it on there to "look cool."

thanks..
and yeah, the fuel rail is silver but has a little ipt sticker on it, i know IPT makes 4 wheeler parts and it confused me as to why it would be in my car. thanks for the help

1. no, you cannot convert an sohc to dohc...there are too many reasons why.
2. the IPT rail is OE, as are many of the IPT injectors attached to IPT rails.

there is almost zero aftermarket support for ZC heads vs. sohc vtec, which have advanced cam profiles and valvetrain bits available, so any potential advantage the ZC head has from independent cam timing adjustment is out the window.

it is possible to out a dohc h22 head on a soch f22 block.
if you really were intrested in putting a dohc head on your d series block you should just drop an ls motor in ther and get dohc and more displacment. you can get an ls motor for very cheap.

Yeah i was gonna say the same thing... i thought the ZC head was DHOC... and i knew it could be put on our D Blocks.... not sure of the power gains or if there benificial at all or not.

nonvtec head on vtec block. all dohc. </TD></TR></TABLE>
B18B1 head on a B16 block ?
I always wanted to know how that would turn out

a ZC head would work. but good luck on that, as for other SOHC to DOHC the F series with a H head would work..

unless its an H22 head on an F22

anything is possible, with the machine work to fit it. but is it worth it, probabli not because in the long run you could get a cheap swap to dohc rather than spend in the grands just to convert a sohc to dohc with stock reliability.

That is probably the only real answer. Yes, it can be done but why? Yes, the ZC is available in a dual cam and a single cam. I don't know why you would put a ZC dohc head on a d15b7 though. I'm sure a sohc vtec head swap would be much more beneficial. A lot of people think that just because it's got two cams that it's better. This is not always true.

if honda wanted a h22 head on a f22 block they would have done that. or if they wanted a b16 head on an ls block they would have done it. Just buy a motor drop it in and then build it up dont make your own motor like putting a b16 head on a ls block it is unreliable and dumb.. BUY A GSR!

Um, by the same logic, Honda doesnt want K20's in CX hatches either....
A lot of people put B16 heads on LS blocks. It's actually a great upgrade.
