Default Engine stamped "ZC" and SOHC

i ran across an engine in a junkyard that had just "ZC" stamped on it. i think i believe it was SOHC (i think if it was DOHC, i would have flipped). what engine is that and where could it have come from? is that what ive heard of as the "SOHC ZC"?

also came in the newer JDM civics and was a d16z6 with a hotter cam. i know there is a lot of engine info in the FAQ thread stickied at the top of this forum. i would check there if i were you!

Not really, unless maybe its the VTEC version, but even then, you dont know its history (think about it, the car is in the junk yard ). My old motor was a sohc non vtec ZC and as a matter of fact i saw another one at the pick ur part (it was in an EG). The non vtec version is used a replacement motor for the D16A6. Some of them came carb'd too...

yeah, the ZC was in the north yard, i found the EX in the south yard, somewhere in the right side as you go down the aisle.

did you go this weekend?

they change those cars like every month. its a pretty quick turn around. i try to go once a month. (and i always end up wondering why i bother... when i make an engineers salary and could be working on my own car....)

no offense but how can you not know what a ZC engine looks like if you have 4751 posts?

eh, the only engine ive dealt with is a d16a6 and dont plan on messing with anything else. i dont do hybrid swaps, i dont mess with japanese sourced engines, although ive done my fair share of engine and tranny swaps, just only d16a6 and L3 trannies. i dont street race, i dont drag. i dont care much for power unless it has to do with the d16a6 because thats the only engine i can use for racing. you dont find stamped "ZC" engines in the junkyard anyway. find me in the suspension or road race/autocross forum, maybe i can help you with something there.

hey, so if those ZC's are dual carbed, then can you slap those carburators onto any D series? am i thinking this correctly? or do they just mean DPFI?

why? tunability maybe? i dunno. i just wanna know.

i have only seen one completely original sohc zc carb/intake manifold setup. I dont what model EF it came out of, but im sure it was a low one. It looked like DPFI would put it to shame . I think it was a single carb though.

Man I was at the junkyard by my house a few months ago and I saw this nice 93 hatch si, so I go up to it and check out the engine... yea it says vtec on the valve cover, but then I go to check the block stamp and I see ZC...I check out the valve cover again and it has the (chalk?)numbers on it that are usually there when you get a swap from japan, so this is a JDM sohc vtec zc engine...in a junkyard wow, anyway I tell my bro with a 91 crx si and he right away decided to come back there and get it for his mini me swap.. it was funny cause when we went to pay, instead of the listed $40 for a head the guy notices it is a " JDM head that has extra power" and says he wants $70 for it, which we paid anyway
