HELP ACCORD OVERHEATING AND I NEED TO MOVE CROSS COUNTRY
I bought a used 1993 Honda Accord with 137,000 miles on it(my first honda), the car now has 140,000. I changed all belts (timing, alt, P/S,), put a New water pump, oil and trans oils changed, and plugs.... been running GREAT best car I have ever had, lots of power, smooth, just Great. But El Paso is a hot place and I have an overheating problem still after the new water pump. With Air conditioner on at red lights, and short lines at the bank the car gets hot, gauge peaks out at "H" on dash, but NO steam, no Leaks, NO SMELL of burning Anti-freeze. Once I get moving again the car cools right off gauge goes down about 180 degrees and both fans are running. What do you think? Also please advise, I have been reading about other Honda Owners, who have these amazing stories of going 400,000 miles on one engine, I have always had American cars and NEVER had overheating problems that were not solved by changing water pump and thermostat, but this honda is my first 4 cyl. but at the same time i have never had an american car go for 400,000 miles. I have to move to Washington State, where I am going to school in the fall, want to take this car, but worried about getting stuck somewhere between Texas and Washington. What can I do to make my car last that long, because im a poor college student and can't afford a car right now. In your professional opinion can by Honda last that long? Should I just sell it and get something else for my trip?
