Default Time for a rebuild, where to buy? (D16z6)

After about 20 miles of my engine being turbocharged and yet to run properly, it spun a bearing. I'm on a budget of $900 for a complete rebuild and $1,100 total incase i need anything else.

I need a kit that includes low compression pistons and forged rods (unless the stock rods can handle around 300hp), i've searched Google for two hours along with eBay and couldn't find much.

Thanks for any help.

you don't get a "kit", you buy your eagle rods, scat, spw, crower, etc.. etc, you buy your pistons, weisco, je, srp, etc, etc, you buy head studs, and a complete gasket kit from your local honda dealer. You also need bearings, acl. You also need to replace the water pump... if you can't find rods/pistons/etc for a sohc you must be blind. Well over a couple hundred thoushand stores that do sell them.

It's gonna be close to about 1500 for a rebuild, you also need the machine work done, and done right. Mill the head, balance the crank, deck the block, and hone/bore the sleeve's..

so, in short...

pistons 450
rods 300
head studs 100
gasket kit/waterpump 150
bearings(rod/main/thrust) 100
machine work 300

then all your misc bullshit 200

i suggest importparts.com /or earl here on h-t
i don't suggest spark racing / exospeed or anything with the word "jdm" in the title.

So i don't need a rebuild kit, i just need everything that would be in a rebuild kit.

I'm wanting more like 230-250whp, i'm saying 300hp because i peace of mind and i highly doubt the stock rods can take that. I found a full rebuild for $899 with low compression pistons, just no rods.

I'm sure i'll get flamed for this, but any information on these pistons? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...=WD1V

I have some inexpensive pistons that will work with stock rods and lower your compression for sale if you wanna look into getting them. Here is the thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1236155

Good luck

Those Nippon pistons are now going for $140 shipped on eBay, not to sound rude, but you're going to be lucky to sell them for $120 shipped. I'm researching them a bit now before a decision, but if they'll hold to my goal (250whp), i'll buy them and with the money i save, get good rods. They claim 300hp in the auction. I would prefer to go through this guy on eBay, he's going to sell me the pistons, bearings, gasket kit, etc, i'd rather have it all in one package.

Another question, should i buy slightly overbored pistons or keep the stock bore? I've only built one engine and it wasn't mine, so i don't know if he used stock bore or overbore to make up for wear and rehoning.

Little bout the Nippon racing pistons....they wont press on to aftermarket "good" rods thats why im not keeping mine. They have to be pressed onto the rods and aftermarket "good" rods have to have a floating wrist pin with locking washer on the end which these pistons do not have. Thats the reason i cant use mine. And also im doing a turbo build right now and i did .020 over and that was just to get a little more displacement without losing any real strength in the cylinder walls.

Im not sure I just know that they will work with any rod that needs the pistons pressed onto them...aka stock rods. This was my dilema. So now i just said f**k it and bought nice 360 dollar pistons for my 300 dollar rods. Its a small price to pay (well when you're broke its a big one) for a bullet proof bottom end that will be extremely reliable with a good tune.

I may be able to put some little kit together to help you out....

Are you going turbo with the D? Because I have nothing but love for turbo D's and Skunk2 now makes a turbo cam. <--ignore this, I'm an idiot.

Yeah that was my problem...this stuff isnt cheap and esspecially when you dont have a job like me cause i was in college. The way i figured though was if its worth doing its worth doing right because i dont know about u but i dont wanna be pulling my motor again in a few weeks or months after throwing a rod or melting a cheap piston. Id save your money and do it right the first time if u want it to be reliable

Added to my favorites, i'll read it more a little later.

Is your name by chance from the rotary engine? If so, are you around Rx7club?

I can use stock LS rods? Roughly how much stronger are these than the D16z6 rods?

You could use Vitara Pistons with LS rods... that's a cheap setup that should hold 300hp...

Or even Vitara pistons with scat rods. Vitara pistons : $125, Scat rods : $299

You might be able to stay within your budget with this setup.

Vitara pistons, as in the Suzuki SUV? Those are going to be difficult to find, i think my best bet is the Nippon racing pistons and LS rods, i'm not looking to get 300hp, i just want a set-up that would support that much power as insurance, i'm looking to run about 230-250whp.

Vitaras are not hard to find, do a search on "vitara" and you will see that lots of people are using them in boosted d-series applications. They drop right into d-series engines, lower the compression a bit, and can handle quite a bit of boost.

Contact "FJT" if you want some, I think he's still selling them.
